Christmas In St. Petersburg, by amerou, Avengers, Natasha & Clint, Mature, ~5400 words === Clint, making the different call--this doesn't work with comics-canon, but it fits with the Clint and Natasha of the movie. There are dozens of takes on this scenario; I think I like this one because of how Clint doesn't see any way out for himself, either.

They're kind of messed up but they don't mind? Maybe it's just because it is very easy to listen to the five lines of dialog they had in Thor and see them ending up like this? Whatever, I just like it.

Disclosures, by gqgqqt, Avengers, Clint Barton/Phil Coulson, Mature, ~68,000 words === This is waaaaaaay more H/C than I'm usually good with (seriously, it's probably more H than everything I've ever talked about here combined), but it sucked me in and I had to know how it ended. Check the tags for more warnings (there are many and they are not kidding about any of them) but it's on this list so you know it is not an irretrievably bleak ending.

Clint wakes up and no matter what he does, Phil dies. It's… not quite as painful as that, but let's just say the happy ending is earned. Now I remember why I stopped reading 1/3 of the way in. I am convinced that Phil wouldn't negotiate, no matter the consequences, so his actions seem very OOC for me. Maybe I'll give it another shot. (Yes, I do spend this much time thinking about fic. :) )

No, no, I totally get spending lots of time thinking about characterization, etc--on this one, I think that I fell into the 'everybody has a breaking point' camp & I thought we'd gotten there (once everything is remembered & we really know what happened.)
