#readathon warm up

I'm still reading the same books I'd started the last time I did the Wednesday reading meme, so nothing new to report there.

But!

This Saturday is the fall version of Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon, so I thought I'd toss a reminder out there in case to anyone wants to join me in this most laidback of reading marathons. (Really, the only "rule" is just to read, as much as you want/can. I see people setting page goals or time goals, but I just give myself permission to do nothing but read for the entire day. It is pretty awesome.) I did the spring version and ended up reading 3 books start-to-finish and finishing off a 4th, which is at least 10% of my reading output for the year in a single day.

I went through my goodreads and created a shelf to act as a tentative TBR.

I actually had an entirely different focus when I started putting the list together, but then Margaret Stohl's YA Black Widow: Forever Red was released yesterday and kept pinging up on my various social media feeds (with much positive energy, too.) My brain glommed onto it and since I pick my TBR based on what pops at me as I look over all the books I own but haven't read, it suddenly moved into the pole position and brought the Edmonson/Noto Black Widow run with it, too. The library hold list coughed up The Raven Boys, which I know you all love, so I'm excited about that, too. I'm really having fun with Dead Beat (Dresden #7, with the zombies), so that gives me a seasonally-appropriate audio book to take care of any time I can't actually be reading, and I'll probably tear through the rest of Malice at the Palace. And then we'll see what pops next.

All in all, it's looking to be an excellent day, and the weather might cooperate and stay cool enough that I can have a fire while I read. VERY EXCITED.

A day of just reading is a delish thing! Good luck!

I'm curious what you will think of Forever Red. I haven't read it but looked at the reviews on Amazon... Strange mixture of what seems like an uninteresting plot (as far as I am concerned) but yet everyone was raving about it and the reviews almost seemed to be paid for??? Or maybe it really is awesome. Lol

Have visitor coming Saturday, but was very intrigued when you did this in spring. Should try it on Sunday instead.

Well, the author is good, so they don't look like they're half-assing it--I'm not sure about the plot, but anything that's a decent bit of Widow merchandise is a step in the right direction. And it looks like the marketing department did their homework and got ARCs to the right people and actually did a coordinated push for the release at NYCC, so they might actually be taking it seriously. (Wonder of wonders, girls might have (gasp!) watched the MCU movies and like the Black Widow. How amazing.)

I will def. report back!

If you decide to go on Sunday, let me know and I will be your cheerleader on twitter! (I love having people cheer on my reading. It's one of my favorite parts of the challenge.) Or you can sign up and read around your visitor, before/after they leave. It's a 24 hour thing, so there's lots of time. :D

Looks like a good list! I'd wanted to participate for the first time this Saturday, but I work all day so that's not gonna happen lol

Please do. I am finding myself getting disenfranchised with Marvel but it's actually more me than them- bc I want more mature poignant material and they are mainly marketing to a younger crowd. Which should be a big duh. I knew this was going to be a teenage novel but was still hoping for something a bit different (specifically more Natasha-centric). Oh well.

I am doing it again! And unlike last year, this year I will try to actually post. (I had a bad case of the overwhelmed overworked lazies last year. Not unlike this year, but I'll try. *g*)

Yay readathon!

Ohh I've got Forever Red on preorder, I hope it'll arrive sometime soon. :D Can't wait to hear what you think!

What is The Raven Boys even about? I keep hearing it's great, but I have no idea. /hides

I do know that people participate as much or as little as their schedule allows, so if you want to sign up and join in once you're finished with work, that's okay by the sponsors, too. :D

Yay, I will be happy to know you're out on your coast reading along during the day!

I'm crossing my fingers for Forever Red -- I just want something decent for Natasha, you know? I don't really even care what it's about, so long as it treats her like the awesome character she is.

And the Raven Boys ... half my flist loves it and it's been on my radar for a while, but then at some point in the last week or 10 days, I read something... somewhere... I can't even remember--I skim a lot of blogs on my lunch hour--and it got me motivated enough to go put a hold on it at the library. All I can remember is that whatever I read said something about Welsh kings and psychics? I figured it was worth a loop through the library. :D

Yeah, I may have to see about doing that. I had just wanted to try doing a whole 24 hours to see if I could do it!

Forever Red... Yeah, I remember reading your thoughts about it, and I pretty much agree.

I think I decided The Raven Boys isn't for me. I've got some other things I wanna try (The Song Of Achilles, Uprooted) so I'll give that a pass or now.

Oh, I really loved both Song of Achilles and Uprooted, so I can't fault you there. I did like The Raven Boys, but it is clearly the set-up for a series, so it's not just one book (I think the 4th & final book comes out this coming February.)
