There's something about this pairing that just works in a way that it seems like they never should. They are so similar and in this scenario it works to their advantage.
I also feel it is worth mentioning that the island itself is like a third character in this story - I know nothing about Hawai'i, but you create such a thick layer with the language/geography/lore and it really makes this whole piece speak.
