I am seriously having problems believing in 2018
Well, hello out there. I hope those of you in the Eastern US haven’t been too zonked by the bomb cyclone…
When last we chatted, it was early December and we were in the run-up to the holidays.
And now it’s early January and I’m contemplating the aftermath of the end of the semester and the holidays and a bit of travel. (And the impending cold I can feel dancing around the edges of my head…)
I guess the prime takeaway is that we survived it all? Barely, in the case of BabyBoy’s finals, and we’re still waiting for grades there, but he was able to chill during the break, which I’m really happy about, because he was *fried* by the end of finals. Number#2Son came with us to D’s family, which is the first time in several years that he hasn’t had panic attacks about it all, which is *really* great. He also went in and got his hair cut (almost 8 inches) which makes D pretty happy (I’m happy, too, but mostly because that means he’s gone out and engaged with the world.) Everybody packed up and went down to Disney World with us and we got to wander around a few parks before the craziness of New Year’s Eve was upon us. (We got to see the new tiger cubs at Animal Kingdom—they were out playing with each other and their mom, so that was exciting.)
Now, I’m just trying to get find the house under all the dirty laundry, suitcases, snacks from the car, half-used wrapping paper, leftover food, pine needles, random gifts, china and crystal and flatware that hasn’t been put back away, and all the administrative type stuff I’ve been putting off taking care of that is now a giant, teetering pile of bills, reimbursement forms, tax stuff, and college audition/application references.
The tree is still up, of course. (It’s not Epiphany yet, and I don’t care what the Southerners around me say, Christmas isn’t over until then.) I may just have D build me a fire (it is cold out there, even here in the South) and burrow under a quilt with a few books I didn’t get around to finishing during the year. (And yuletide—I should go write up a few recs there, too.)
Stay warm and safe (or for my Southern Hemisphere friends, don’t get heatstroke! And stay safe.)
