(no subject)

Nothing like a rainy Monday to turn the commute into a spastic, stop-and-go party, right? And then we missed a weather window and ended up walking across campus in a downpour for lunch. My jeans are wet to the knees, ick.

also, hi! it's been a while. I posted fic last night, \o/. (hard to dance with a devil on your back, The Unusuals, Allison Beaumont/Jason Walsh, pre-series/pilot episode pr0n that has been kicking around in my brain since last January and you don't know how happy I am to have finally knocked it out. Plus, it was an actual [community profile] cottoncandy_bingo fill, so I won't have a totally blank card. I say again: \o/.)

Given the (seemingly permanently) scattered state of my brain, perhaps bullet points might work out best to corral my thoughts:

  • Fall TV season has started? I'm already behind, sigh. (For the record, still watching SPN, H5-0, Castle. NCIS & LA always seem to sneak in there, too. Not sure about anything new, but since I'm still catching up on Leverage and Warehouse 13, it's gonna have to pop my eyes out to make it onto the DVR queue.)

  • The boys are MAD about Dr Who. Dinner conversation around here has consisted of nothing but Eccleston and Tennant, with a smattering of the Braves playoff chances and English Premiere League football (soccer.) Yes, we run a classy dinner table around here. :D

  • I already told this to [livejournal.com profile] withdiamonds (who is the recipient of all my random IMs at all hours of the day and night, isn't she lucky?) but I can tell I'm going to end up getting a BluRay player solely for the extra goodies on the Avengers release. The only reason I haven't done it yet is that I haven't been in a Target or near a Best Buy recently and I am making myself not do the Amazon Prime thing. Yet. (yay for self-control?)

  • We are currently in training for a Food & Wine weekend at Epcot at the end of the month. Much walking is happening now, as well as serious debates as to which of the dinner reservations we want to keep (because after eating all day at the park, what could be better than a 7-course meal (with wine pairings) at either California Grill, Citrico's, Jiko, Artist's Point, or Bull & Bear?) The menus are flying around and at some point we'll make everyone rank them all and pull the highest score. Last year, we almost went into food comas at the CG and ended up "having" to eat the 8-layer birthday cake for breakfast the next morning (but it *was* our second dessert/8th course of the dinner, so we weren't total wusses.)

  • I was hit by some crazed nesting bug this weekend and ended up organizing the pantry (I have no idea why I have 4 cans of almond paste, but I am clearly set for a marzipan emergency), cleaning out the refrigerator (scary) and scrubbing down the deep fryer (omgterrifying), which did horrific things to my manicure but left me with certain amounts of calm. (This is a little freaky as I am so not the kind of person who finds peace in order, but I'm guessing life is just a little too out of control these days and my brain is taking refuge wherever it can.)

  • Most probably related to the above point, I also found myself on a cookbook spree (fortunately, only one actual purchase, My Family Table, which I have been eyeing for about a year), but my reserve list at the library is overflowing with the others (Cooking Off The Clock, My Berlin Kitchen, Around My French Table, and My Calabria.) And yes, the subtext of the last three (run away! far, far away!) is pretty much not even sub these days, but whatever. It is what it is. I'm rolling with whatever is making me happy.

I have DragonCon pictures to post and recs to update, so I will try hard to be back later this week. Ciao, bellas!
