(no subject)

hello, hello, how is everyone? I have been here sporadically, partially for the usual blah RL reasons (kids, work, I got sick, there was a giant water main break and I ran around boiling drinking/cooking water for days, etc, etc) and partially for the fun(?) reason of having signed up for two challenges due at the end of July and having to write like crazy in between all the RL stuff. I am happy to say that those two are (mostly) under control, with posting coming soon on both (first, my [livejournal.com profile] be_compromised AU, and then over the weekend, my [community profile] femmeremix.)

And then it's the final week of #2Son's homeschool semester (or really, the final week of homeschool, period, as these are his last 2 classes before he gets his diploma, \o/ ::shhhhhhhhhhh, don't scare it off::), BabyBoy comes home from writing camp, Oldest is bouncing back and forth between home and school and will hopefully manage to get himself registered and back enrolled for the fall semester. D is moving up to teach at the high school, so that will be a rush (but I possibly might get my dining room back from where he hauled everything out of his middle school classroom) and then BabyBoy goes back the 2nd week in Aug. AND THEN, my division is scheduled to move to the new, shiny office that is going to double/triple my commute at the end of September so all life will have to be rearranged around that. funtimes.

On the fun side, [livejournal.com profile] babygotbass came to ATL, bringing [livejournal.com profile] daisydust and introducing me to [tumblr.com profile] kickdrumheart, so there was a fangirl lunch, yay! It was stupidly hot (as it has been all summer) but we ate and drank and shopped a bit on the trendy Westside. I'm always going to love excuses to get out of the 'burbs and go eat good food, but it's extrabetterfun when we can swap AO3 reading tips and tricks while we eat. :D

Also fun, DragonCon is coming and this might be the year I wait in line for big panels. Normally, I just bounce around and see what I can see, but they just confirmed Nichelle Nichols and Peter Mayhew, neither of whom are getting any younger, so this might be the year. Otherwise, #2 & I are planning on living in the Star Wars track (though I'll have to take a sidetrip over to see the Arrow cast and BJ Britt (not together.)) Now we're just waiting for the daily schedules and we can get right on it. (hah, right, I'll probably just end up people-watching at the lobby bar at the Marriott like usual. :D)

I've been looking at how life has been progressing lately, and despite having lived in this brain for decades, it's finally sinking in that trying to do things a little each day doesn't really work for me. It's hard to let go of this life-advice, though, as everyone says you should do the daily thing, not try to do everything all at once, but I swear, my brain does not like an hour of this and then an hour of that. I am contemplating a schedule where I say 'this weekend is all about reading' (amid the laundry, etc) and then the next one is about dealing with the gazillion photos, etc. We'll see. (I am also not a morning person and I am never going to be one. I am super-close to slapping the next smug morning person who implies that my lack of focus before noon is a moral failing.)

Ok, enough whinging about life. I will be back with fic posting

Glad you had a fun fangirl luncheon amidst the RL and writing!

I feel you. I never manage to do a little bit everyday either. It just seems inefficient.

The water thing sounds horrible. Especially lasting for days.

Glad you had a fun fannish meet up within all the chaos.

Oh man, super busy times, eh? D: I hope you can have some good quality fun at DragonCon to recoup! :)

I am also not a morning person and I am never going to be one. I am super-close to slapping the next smug morning person who implies that my lack of focus before noon is a moral failing. -- Omfg this. I can get up as early as I want, that's just not the time my brain prefers to function at.

Everyone always tells me things like "oh, but I get so much done when it's quiet in the morning," and then look so shocked when I tell them it's quiet after 5 p.m., too, and it's pretty amazing how much can happen then... especially since I'm catching the offshore teams in India at the start of their day rather than at the end, like the early -birds do. :D

People-watching in the lobby bar at the Marroitt is always a great option. We'll be Avengering as usual, and have a full set of Doctors (1-12+War and Wife!). No Totoro this year, so we should be much more mobile. :) Maybe we can coordinate catching an Arrow panel, because that is high on my list for this year.

Here's hoping we all make it through the business before D*C!

Last year I staked out a table at the Hyatt and used it as a base for kids and family and friends coming and going--I may try that again, too. I have been following along with the Marvel cosplays on fb--I can't wait to see everything! The Arrow panel sounds like fun; we'll have to see if we can make that happen. Barrowman is a riot even if no one else is there!
