oh, I know--it was so amazing to have the original trio be a part of this new story. It added so many layers! And Emo!Ren was sooooooo Anakin's grandson. Just totally. :D
Rey was fantastic! I loved her and I loved that it was her story and I can't wait to find out who she is and how she fits into the universe.
I was so surprised that I wasn't spoiled for anything! I even thought "maybe it's a fun action movie without any big revelations", but no, fandom was just really good at not giving anything away, and I'm grateful :)
I really didn't have time to see a movie this week (and I had *zero* time over the weekend) but I knew we were skating on thin ice as it was, so we ducked out yesterday afternoon. #2Son knew about the Bad Thing, but he was the only one who'd gotten even a little bit spoiled from all the time online. It's the first movie in years that I haven't gotten spoiled for, which was awesome.
I saw it yesterday, and adored it. I'm not a massive Star Wars fan, so I wasn't worried about it ruining my childhood or anything like that, but I adored the main trio and found the whole thing uncomplicatedly optimistic and warm-hearted.
My oldest kid was never a big SW fan (which is just heresy! but what are you going to do?) but he came out of the theater just bubbling over with happy energy, so that was an extra added bonus. :D
Am DYING to squee, but won't get to see it until the evening of Christmas Eve. Am still unspoiled, but it gets harder every minute. IT'S KILLING ME TO WAIT TWO MORE DAYS, MISSY.
So glad you liked it! We went in unspoiled, too, and the husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Scheduling a day to go again. So many theories to consider! And the music! I think it lived up to the hype. (I could go all fan girl, but I'm playing it low-key. I really really liked it.)Did you read the "Heir to the Empire" series? I always thought that would've made a worthy cinematic sequel...
I'm being super low-key, too, b/c I was practically in tears at several points. I can't wait to see it again!
We have all read Heir to the Empire around here (which means that I've essentially read it 4 times as various kids read and want to discuss.) I think it would have been a great story for the movie, but they would have had to have recast the original trio and I think that's basically impossible. But we're all thinking there's maybe a chance for a Mara Jade-esque character to fit into the Skywalker family dynamic in the movie-verse, too.
I was unspoiled too and it that was wonderful :) I have so much squee for this film, I loved it and cannot wait to see it again (sadly that won't be soon). In the meantime I will reblog pretty!

I could care less about emo boy villain but I can't be bothered to try for that so he earns a hearty meh.
But the original trio back, even separated as they were pretty much? That was great.
