subjects for a wednesday

  • I hit some kind of a wall at the office yesterday and walked out before I started crying (or quit). Instead of brooding about it, though, I took myself to an afternoon matinee. Just me and 50 retired military types (and one lone fangirl in the back row. If it had been any other day I would have turned around to see if we possibly knew each other, but it was so not a sociable day. If it was you in the Regal, hi!) (Then I went home and worked some more, but I was much calmer.)

  • Pursuant to the above point, I may or may not be writing Bourne Legacy fic, but if I am, it is all [personal profile] poisontaster and [personal profile] azephirin's fault. (And [livejournal.com profile] saturn92103, too, but that one is just in the outline stage.)

  • Today is the 100th anniversary of Julia Child's birth. By rights, I should be cooking something lovely to celebrate, but tomorrow is the day my house gets cleaned, which means tonight is NoDishes Night while I try to get the rest of the house in some kind of decent order, so instead please to have this awesome picture of how the ingredients were always so close at hand while she was filming her TV show

So sorry about the bad day...did you enjoy the movie?

    [identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2012-08-15 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It's been a eh week all around, but I did enjoy the movie (Bourne--such a surprise what with all the Renner love I've been working this year) and then I came home and managed to make actual food for dinner, which always helps me chill... grilled lemon-pepper chicken and asparagus and some couscous and the rest of the tomatoes I'd gotten at the farmers market.

and I will shut up now!

Sounds much better than what I had for supper! =D

    Have you seen this?:

    :D :D :D

    omg, that is FABULOUS!

    [identity profile] withdiamonds.livejournal.com 2012-08-15 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
    That's absolutely wonderful!

What a great photo! Did you see Google's main page this morning? Cute.

Good for you for doing what you had to do to make yourself feel better!

    [identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2012-08-15 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I may never be able to watch any of her shows the same way again. :D

I'm working from home today, which is helping. I only have tomorrow in the office and then I'm back at home on Friday so I keep telling myself I can get through this week. Everything just went sideways this week.

    [identity profile] withdiamonds.livejournal.com 2012-08-15 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe I should watch "Julia and Julia" today...

    [identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2012-08-15 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I put As Always, Julia on reserve at the library today. That counts, right?

(If Dean wasn't in Purgatory, I'd send him out for lots of good food, because he might not know or care who Julia Child is, but he'd appreciate her love of feeding people.)

    [identity profile] withdiamonds.livejournal.com 2012-08-15 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I think Dean would appreciate Julia very much.

    [identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2012-08-15 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
He might think she was a little crazy, but once she put a plate of coq au vin in front of him (and followed it up with tarte tatin, because hey, it's almost fall, right?) he'd be completely on board.

    [identity profile] alittleblue.livejournal.com 2012-08-15 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes, abandoning ship is the best thing to do. Glad you enjoyed the movie.

That is a fabulous picture of Julia in the studio! I love it!

    [identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2012-08-15 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I was so much more Zen after the distraction of the movie--I definitely got more done in the hour I put in after I got home than I would have had I stayed and fretted.

I had to pass that picture along; it is too too awesome to hide away.

    [identity profile] ariadnes-string.livejournal.com 2012-08-15 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry about the bad day/week! Sounds like you did exactly the right thing about it, though.

I have been seriously considering the possibility of having a standing date w/ myself to go to the movies on bargain!Tuesday afternoons. Wish we lived close enough to do it together--though I understand the need and satisfaction of going to the movies by oneself.

The boys and I went to see The Bourne Legacy Monday afternoon in our squashed-by-travel exhaustion and enjoyed it very much. I sincerely hope you do write some fic! Or point those of us interested towards some good stuff.

    *hugs*

    [identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2012-08-15 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'd love to have someone to go to the movies with. Geography is so challenging sometimes. :D

When I saw the comment from you, the first thing I thought was if you and the boys had seen Bourne yet--my guys are going in all different directions, so I went by myself, but I'm hoping to get at least one or two of them to go back with me. How does Aaron rate on your youngest's rankings of badasses?

I really am writing fic already. I've only seen a few crossover-type things so far, and nothing terribly exciting, but if I stumble on the mother lode I will be sure to pass it along. (Somebody somewhere has to be writing Cross/Byer--there were entirely too many long, loaded looks for that to slide under the fannish radar.)

    [identity profile] ariadnes-string.livejournal.com 2012-08-15 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I just asked them: Ethan Hunt v. Aaron Cross. They said: Aaron Cross--so I guess he ranks pretty high!

For better or worse, we watched all the Bourne movies this summer to prepare ourselves. I like Matt Damon a lot, but I didn't mind switching him out for JR at all. I did miss Paul Greengrass at the helm, however--not so many gorgeous cat-and-mouse suspense scenes. Still, I really enjoyed it. I may have to go back and see it by myself, though--I had to take son #2 to the bathroom during one of the crucial exposition dumps.

Can't wait to read your fic! I would totally write some if I could make fit it into my bingo squares (no medical kink on my card sadly!). Is there a kink meme or something where I can look for prompts?

I saw one Byer/Cross on AO3--not that great, but I agree that there's a lot of potential in that pairing!

    [identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2012-08-15 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
hah--I'm working on the cottoncandy bingo challenge and now everything is coming out porn and angst (which is probably very predictable of me.) I think I can make this work for a 'sleeping on each other' prompt, but really, it's Virgin!Aaron (which is, like I said, entirely PT and AZ's fault) so it's more of a kink bingo square in search of an owner. :D

I haven't seen a kink meme yet, which is sad, but the movie hasn't even been out for a week yet so possibly we're rushing it? I will definitely yell if I see one.

I did and didn't miss Greengrass--I can only take about one close-in chase/fight per movie, but like you said, he does know how to amp the tension. I was also good with swapping out Damon for Renner--like them both, like the different characters. And since the original 3 movies bear only passing resemblance to the books, having new characters didn't ping me at all.

And I need a Cross icon--something from when he wakes up in Manila, I think.

    [identity profile] azephirin.livejournal.com 2012-08-16 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
it's Virgin!Aaron (which is, like I said, entirely PT and AZ's fault)

OMG I AM SO DELIGHTED AND WILLING TO TAKE THE BLAME! :D :D :D

    [identity profile] ariadnes-string.livejournal.com 2012-08-16 11:35 am (UTC)(link)
oh man, I would die for a Cross waking up in Manila icon! *searches*

So excited for a virgin!Aaron fic!!!

I did love the way they slotted this movie in with the last one--gotta remember that for my next remix fic.

    [identity profile] wendy.livejournal.com 2012-08-15 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
    I LOVE that picture, awesome.

    [identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2012-08-15 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
    I couldn't not share it!

    [identity profile] without-me.livejournal.com 2012-08-15 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
AWESOME photo! And I'm sending all the good thoughts your way!

    [identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2012-08-15 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
    Isn't that fantastic?

And thank you; good thoughts gratefully accepted.

    [identity profile] brandywine28.livejournal.com 2012-08-16 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Seeing a movie by yourself is just one of those mysteriously therapeutic things that almost always makes you feel a little bit better. Odd but true. I'm glad it helped. :)

    LOVING that Julia photo, btw!

    [identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2012-08-17 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
It was definitely better than going home and doing laundry (which I also considered, as there are always piles of dirty clothes to deal with.)

    [identity profile] hammerhead22.livejournal.com 2012-08-16 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry for the bad day, although I do think escaping and watching Mr. Renner and his arms was a fabulous decision.

And I WANT THE FIC NOW. Oh my, I'm rather rude, aren't I? :)

    [identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2012-08-17 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
The arms definitely helped--and I did appreciate whoever did the costuming, too, because everything he wore fit so well.

Fic is in process! Mostly smut, but a tiny bit of character issues, too. :D

    [identity profile] hammerhead22.livejournal.com 2012-08-19 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I do think the costumers for the Bourne Legacy should get some kind of award. Then again, maybe working with Jeremy Renner's body is reward enough:)

I can't wait for the fic! Smuuuuuut FTW\o/

    That picture is amazing.

Hope the rest of your week is better <3

    [identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2012-08-17 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
    I totally loved that picture!

The week is lurching along--it took me 3 tries to get enough cash to go to the farmer's market today, but I finally got there and the nice man with the shawarma and the pita still had some, and so did the ladies with the tomatoes. So there was good stuff for dinner tonight.

    [identity profile] saturn92103.livejournal.com 2012-08-16 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
Bad days suck. Bourne fic does not. (Unless you want it to, if you know what I mean. *wink* *wink* *nudge* *nudge*)

    [identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2012-08-17 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
hah, no sucking so far, at least not in this one. At least not so far!

    [identity profile] geneli4.livejournal.com 2012-08-16 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
    that photo is AWESOME.

relatedly, it says something i don't want to think too much about that it put me in mind of that one photo of brit at the beach w/ kfed when they were first dating, the one that looked like a normal shot of two kids sitting on the shore until you saw it from the opposite angle and they were completely surrounded by creeper dudes w/giant cameras.

    [identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2012-08-17 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
No, I know what you mean--it made me think of something similar with Princess Diana walking through an airport and a mob of photographers just in front of her walking backwards. Creepy.
