back in kansas...
Home from Dragon*Con. Dealing with laundry and other RL necessary evils.
Things On Which I Did NOT Spend Money: The Black Widow Lego mini fig (she is to die for, but srsly, $25???? The dealer said none of his usual sources are selling, that they all are keeping her. Well, duh. I'd keep her, too.)
Things On Which I DID Spend Money: There was a leathercrafter in the dealer room who took a Great Deal of my money for a seriously swoon-worthy belt, complete with pockets big enough for an iPhone, turquoise insets, and lots of weathered brass clasps. I almost didn't even flinch. And then there was the lovely silversmith who held the necklace and earrings for me while I hunted down my Visa card (boys had it. Wherever they were, it didn't involve shopping. For sure.)
Things On Which I Not Only Did Not Spend Money, But Which I Believe I Could Turn A Profit On: Also in the dealer room was a booth with steampunk-y weapons that I swear made me want to reach for a dozen of the hundred or so Nerf guns we have scattered around the house and a can or two of bronze/brass spray paint. I'm all for spending money, etc, (see above) but wow, $40 for a repurposed Nerf gun and some gears?
Best Line-Sitting Decision, like, Ever: John Rhys-Davies, Billy Boyd and Craig Parker from LOTR. They worked the crowd like the pros they are, played off each other like an improv troup, and generally made the entire panel fly by. (Also, no cringe-worthy audience questions either.)
Seriously, I Want To Be Her When I Grow Up: Nichelle Nichols. A-freaking-Mazing.
Costumes, Most Popular: Bane. Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter. Gender-swapped everyone (Hawkeye, Iron Man (full armor, including functioning helmet and light up repulsors; also, a catsuit version, with incredibly detailed embroidery on the suit itself and a gorgeous, stained glass arc reactor pendant,) Darth Vader (steampunk and a second, cat-suited version with a fucking awesome cape, plus a third, stunning corseted one with a steam-powered light saber), Han/Leia, Buttercup/Dread Pirate Roberts, Bane, etc.)
Costumes, Freakiest (At Least Personally): Several of the Banes were seriously menacing (not that they were harrassing anyone, they were just standing in the lobbies, but oy. Freaky. I finally decided I had to stop drinking on Friday because the guy at the Hyatt was a little too good. Again, me, not him--by that point L & B & I had been drinking for 6 hours and the bar at the Hyatt is right out where you can see the cosplayers in the lobby. The Zombie Walk didn't even make me blink, but that Bane standing and surveying them was totally freaking me out. 6 hours of gin & vodka will do that to you.)
Costumes, Most Droolworthy: Penny Dreadful did a steampunk Wizard of Oz that made me swooooon. (They're professionals, but they all started off amateur and just found a way to make it pay the bills, so that's cool.)
Most Pleasant Surprise: The Mechancial Ball -- I went even though I'd left my bag of accessories at home and so was feeling very un-fine, but I met up with people I used to work with, and then my neighbor showed up and it was a very fun time. (I was still very plain, though. sadface)
Work tomorrow, sigh.

It's always such a crazy time -- too many people, too much to see, never enough time.
