A kitchen meme, as seen across my flist...

I wonder how many pasta machines, breadmakers, juicers, blenders, deep fat fryers*, egg boilers, melon ballers, sandwich makers, pastry brushes, cheese knives, electric woks, miniature salad spinners, griddle pans**, jam funnels, meat thermometers, filleting knives, egg poachers, cake stands***, garlic crushers, martini glasses, tea strainers, bamboo steamers, pizza stones, coffee grinders****, milk frothers*****, piping bags, banana stands, fluted pastry wheels, tagine dishes, conical strainers, rice cookers, steam cookers, pressure cookers, slow cookers, spaetzle makers, cookie presses******, gravy strainers, double boilers (bains marie), sukiyaki stoves, ice cream makers, and fondue sets languish dustily at the back of the nation's cupboards.

* I'm on at least my third one of these--what can I say? I'm married to a good ol' boy. Everything is better fried.
** I have two, actually: one a plug-in electric standalone model and one heavy cast iron one you put on the stove.
*** I have ... four of these? I keep inheriting them from people.
**** Used to grind spices as I don't drink coffee
***** Part of my hot chocolate/latte maker, but since that's on on the list, I'm counting it here.
****** I used to use these all the time--I probably have about 20 different designs--but recently the cookie making has been all about dough with chunks of stuff in it (chocolate, candy, nuts, etc). At some point, I assume I'll go back to the less bumpy cookies.

huh, I would have thought I'd have had more un-used stuff, but I guess not. I could add pie irons, a pizelle maker, an immersion blender, mortar and pestle, and about 20 Wilton cake pans to the list, but I use all those, too. Oh, and a Zoku popsicle maker which is right up there with the hot chocolate/latte maker for sheer fun.

I do have a pastry brush and a fluted pastry wheel but thank god those are probably the smallest items on that list as my apartment only has a kitchenette. :D
