good morning, dw/lj!

3 quick things (2 questions, 1 pointer to something I found)

Q1: Books that feature pies? (Foodie bookclub + to-die-for pastry chef == we need an excuse to get her to do a Pie Night for us.) Any genre, fiction or non. All suggestions gratefully accepted, thanks in advance!

Q2: Famous mobs? This is for a 7th-grade lit project. I think it has to be an actual, historical event but he's checking with the teacher about Les Mis, so for now that's still up for debate. The examples given in class were the storming of the Bastille and the Boston Tea Party. Suggestions from all cultures welcome, and again, tia!

P1: If you watched The Unusuals when it was streaming on Netflix, it's now on Amazon (free with Prime) and there's an additional, tenth episode that I never saw on Netflix (I watched last winter, so it might have popped up after that? But I definitely had not seen it before I went back in to rewatch as I was writing the Beaumont/Walsh I just posted.) It's very Casey-centric; a little more serious than usual, but mostly, I was just happy to have a tiny bit more of the characters.

Maybe it's being from Kansas City, but at first I thought you meant organized crime when you said "famous mobs."

Hah, no, that was exactly what I thought, too! I was trying to figure out how Al Capone, et al fit with 7th grade language arts!

the Gordon Riots (1780): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordon_Riots

more later if I can think of any!

Oh, excellent, thanks!

The sweetness at the bottom of the pie by Alan Bradley. An absolutely delightful read!

Thank you--that looks marvelous!

Mark me among the more violent minded, too. Glad to hear that's not what he's studying in 7th grade.

Would Woodstock qualify as a mob? It was the first thing that came to mind ( after Machine Gun Kelly, that is).

Martha has a pie book out and I'd love to hear what discussion on that sounded like. No, really! I am an admirer but will be the first to admit that not all of her recipes hit the mark. Regardless, I hope you share what your group eventually settles on. A book featuring pies would be a delightful change in reading topoc for me.

We read a nonfiction book about the olive oil industry & had the book club at a little shop that sold olive oil & balsamic vinegars (& did tastings) & then we wussed out & read Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistlestop Cafe & met at the little meat & three place down the road (but they've been on DD&D & 3/4 of the book club are transplanted Yankees who *needed* to eat there at least once.) I'm determined to figure out the pie thing.

I have passed on the Woodstock suggestion; he's going to run it by his teacher in the morning, thank you!

Mobs--burning witches in MA back in the day. All the anti-wall street stuff now.

My tiny contribution.

Awesome, thanks!

Thinner by Stephen King. I'd eat the pie before reading, however.

Cool, thank you!

Also, I've had to bite my tongue about a thousand times as we've been knocking the pie idea around to keep from throwing out Dean-related comments. :D

I can't believe I didn't think of that one, thank you!
