This works in a few relationships and the Winter Soldier, which is even better, especially when all the personalities ring as true as they do.

The Red Room comes into play; there's time travel; a SHIELD mission or two; and a judicious amount of working out slightly complicated romantic relationships.

Make Way For Ducklings by hetrez, The Avengers, Steve/Bucky, Gen/Explicit, 3 stories/28,500 words (total) === Post-movie, Steve builds a team and, relatedly, a life (which is the gen part), which helps keep him from going crazy when the Winter Soldier is taken into SHIELD custody four years later. Natasha is pretty spectacularly awesome here, too.

Three intersecting stories around the same crucial months. I almost never read WiPs but I hung on through the entire summer for this one and loved every second of it.
