Title: a garden grows around us
Fandom: The Avengers / MCU
Rating: Explicit
Length: ~7850 words
Pairing: Clint Barton/Darcy Lewis
Notes: The continuing adventures of life in hiding in Wakanda in the fall in with you 'verse, complete with crazy food and diversionary sex.

Summary: Okay, so the thing is, Darcy knows she's been getting bored, but until she's standing on a stool in the kitchenette part of the guest cottage she and Clint have been living in, flour and cocoa and superfine sugar everywhere, trying for the fifth time to get a good overhead shot of a just-out-of-the-microwave mug cake, she maybe hadn't realized exactly how bored she actually is.

Title: take the world together
Fandom: Avengers: Age of Ultron | MCU (pre-canon)
Rating: Teen
Length: ~4800 words
Pairing: Laura/Clint
Notes: Part 4 of small town girl -- this backstory for the farm continues to bubble along in the back of my brain and every so often I manage to tease out another little bit.

Summary: "Surprise?" Laura offered.

"You could say that," Natasha answered, cradling her coffee in both hands.

Title: in deep with you darling
Fandom: MCU (post-Thor, Avengers, CA:TWS, A:AoU, with a little AoS thrown in for fun)
Rating: Mature
Length: ~48,000 words
Pairing: Darcy Lewis/Clint Barton
Notes: I kept it as close to canon as I could but I had to go a little AU for Age of Ultron (sorry, but I was 30,000 words in before Laura was dropped on us and there really wasn't any other way I could finish but to pretend that part hadn't happened. I promise to make it up with more Clint/Laura in my small town girl series, ♥)

Summary: Darcy could have, under normal circumstances, resisted the aesthetics (however awesome they are, and holy crap are they awesome), but there's an itch under her skin—apparently, nearly dying by giant, fire-breathing robots from space in the middle of Nowhere, New Mexico will start you questioning your life choices. Who knew?

Checking in to say hellooooo and wish the USians a belated Happy Turkey Day. I have yet to actually do the traditional feast as plans changed and I ended up at my mom’s house with Oldest and BabyBoy, while D and #2Son were at home/running down to see D’s father again. Since my mom doesn’t/can’t eat (and her mom’s stuffing recipe is one of the few things she actually misses eating and that would be hard for her to see/smell and not have) and Oldest doesn’t like anything of a standard T-giving dinner, I opted for a spaghetti feast, with homemade meatballs and garlic bread. Fun, and well-received, but not at all traditional. We’re going back home later today, though, and I’m planning on the whole involved deal later this weekend. Of course, every time I say that, people rush to tell me that I don’t have to go to all that trouble and I’m seriously starting to develop a few cracks in my Pleasant Fuck-Off ReplyTM. Normally I’m better at doing the semi-polite bitchslap to shut down people’s super-wrong assumptions about my life (because, let’s be real, you all know I’m looking forward to pulling together the whole feast, especially in my own kitchen, where all the knives are sharp and the herbs and spices are fresh, and I only know you from the internet--you'd think people who see me on a daily basis might have figured that out, too) but there are too many competing issues going on here (#2’s anxiety disorder, Mom’s health, my father-in-law’s health) and being polite to idiots is pretty far down on the list of things to spend my energy on.

Anyway.

In more fun news, I managed to finish up another part of the Barton farm backstory I seem to be writing:

your hand in mine, we walk the miles, Laura/Clint (obvs), with guest starring roles by Cooper Barton and Nick Fury.

So, yeah, that’s a nice thing to have checked off the WiP list (I’m not done here--my brain has at least 3 more ideas percolating, including the origin story of Black Widow’s arrow necklace--but any little step forward is good by me.) Also, I went out and hunted down an icon for Laura since this seems to be something I'll be revisiting and I hate being unprepared for posting purposes. :D

Are we doing the December talking meme again this year? That was fun last year even if I had to bail two-thirds of the way through and finish up in January. Should I put up a list of dates? You know I like to hold forth and share my opinions about Things…

hi & recs

topaz119: Cropped shot of Kate Bishop from the Fraction/Aja 2012 Hawkeye comic (kate is not having any of your shit)
long time, no talk, but really nothing exciting has been going on. Getting up for school is kicking my ass this year (due to various logistical and work-related issues, this is the earliest I've had to haul my not-a-morning-person self out of bed in about a decade and it SUCKS), to the point that I forgot fall TV was back. I have managed to start reading again (sloooowly, but I have finish 2 whole books recently, go me) and writing is picking up, too (also slowly, but 100 words/day is better than 0.)

My greatest accomplishment (other than not burning the house down while I stagger around at the end of the day and attempt to make dinner) is to have chipped away at the ridiculous backlog of recs from the last months (or longer, sigh.) So, here are the eleven oldest Avengers/MCU bookmarks I have, slash, het, and gen, mostly featuring that archer (no surprise there, right?) but occasionally (more than once, even) not.

MCU favorites (older, but maybe you've missed one or two?) )

Previous recs available on [pinboard.in profile] topaz119 (sloooowly closing on that magic 1000 number...)
topaz119: (AgtCoulson)
I thought I'd posted this last week, but apparently my brain is telling me stories again. So, more things that made me happy, all older, pre-Cap2//AOS Clint/Coulsons this time (because, wow, I really do read a lot of that pairing...)

SHIELDHusbands4ever!!? )

As always, previous recs (in many fandoms) are available on [pinboard.in profile] topaz119
topaz119: (HeartsFromTheBeach)
Wow, so I missed a couple of pages of bookmarks from way-back-when. Let's call this start on catching up The Things That Made Me Happy, v. Avengers--Older, Gen/Het/Slash, all with the Hawkeye factor.

13 in this batch, no Cap 2/AOS end-of-season spoilers )

Title: ask ourselves what road to take
Fandom: The Avengers / Agents of SHIELD / Hawkeye (comics)
Pairing: Clint Barton / Phil Coulson
Rating: NC-17
Length: ~ 47,100
Disclaimer: Not mine
Notes/Warnings: Established relationship, canon-typical violence, H/C (physical and emotional), PTSD, reconciliation, lots of friendships and a bit of TEAMFEELS. Also for the deathfic prompt on my [community profile] trope_bingo card (but it's okay, because we all know where canon went with that thing that happened in The Avengers, right?)
Summary: Clint knew it was going to be bad as soon as he saw Fury standing in front of him.

ugh, normal life resumes in the morning, so here, have some things that made me happy. All Avengers/MCU/Marvel 616 and older, so there are no Cap 2 spoilers in any of them, and the AoS spoilers are pretty basic (most are not even up to the first round of revelations re: Tahiti.)

eta: now with actual, functioning links!

our bruises are coming, but we will never fold , by [archiveofourown.org profile] liveonthesun, MCU (Agent Carter, Captain America, The Avengers), gen (Peggy Carter), ~3200 words, Teen === Peggy takes Howard’s best shot at approximating Erskine’s formula and carries on the Super Soldier program after Steve ditches, because she is awesome like that.

basking in the aftermath, by [archiveofourown.org profile] Kathar, MCU (Agents of SHIELD, The Avengers), Clint/Coulson, ~18,100 words, Explicit === Pre-Magical Place Tahiti, where everybody recovers and figures out how to move on. Definitely AU now, with everything that's happened with both AoS & CA:TWS, but I still got sucked into a complete re-read when I went to write up this rec.

The Best Bad Ideas, by [archiveofourown.org profile] copperbadge, MCU (Agents of SHIELD, The Avengers), Clint/Coulson, ~17,800 words, Explicit === Clint puts on Captain America’s uniform (for actual, legitimate reasons) and discovers a little something about Coulson in the aftermath. And – of course – being Clint, he just can’t leave it alone.

The Dawn of the Last Great Day, by [archiveofourown.org profile] ignipes, MCU (Captain America, The Avengers, comics-verse Winter Soldier), Steve/Bucky, ~13,800 words, Teen === The Winter Soldier knows better than to ask why he’s supposed to kill Captain America, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t questioning the order. Or starting to remember things they don’t want him to remember. Posted pre-CA:TWS, so no movie-specific spoilers.

Cold Making Warmth, by [archiveofourown.org profile] sheafrotherdon, MCU (The Avengers), Steve/Tony, ~2,400 words, Teen === Steve decides to buy everyone presents. Holiday fluff of the best kind.

Reward System - The Coulson Card, by [archiveofourown.org profile] adamantsteve, MCU (pre-Avengers), Clint/Coulson, ~10,800 words, Mature === Coulson works out a way to bribe Clint into taking care of himself, but Clint doesn't mind as much as he thought he might.

The Clockwork Murders, by [archiveofourown.org profile] selenay, MCU AU (Avengers), Clint/Coulson, ~76,400 words, Mature === A novel-length, steampunk adventure in which Mr. Phillip Coulson, quiet gentleman by day, investigates unusual happenings with his somewhat down-on-his-luck, American valet, Barton. Be. Still. My. Heart.

Land of Enchantment, by [archiveofourown.org profile] visiblemarket, MCU (pre-Avengers, Iron Man 2, Thor), Clint/Coulson, ~6,800 words, Explicit === SHIELDHusbands, working things out in and around the events of Iron Man 2, Thor, & Fury's Big Week. Surprisingly domestic without sacrificing the hassles of being SHIELD agents.

You Move Like a Dream I Had, by [archiveofourown.org profile] Serenitala, Avengers, Clint/Coulson, ~8000 words, Mature === Post-Avengers, and Clint is taking on more than might be possible to bear.

I had to take a break from the angst-fest I'm in the middle of writing (at least I'm at the point where I can write the turn but I clearly did not think through the implications of all this when I blithely started down this path) so I wrote up a batch of 10 more things that made me happy.

all Avengers/MCU, multiple pairings, slash, het & poly )

Today was the first day I had to be at the office and get the regularly-schooled kid to his campus, too. (He went back yesterday, but I was working from home, so a hoodie and sweatpants worked just fine.) It's also the day the lady who cleans for me is due, #2 started on a new round of meds, and Oldest is currently wandering the house until all hours of the night. (D, of course, got himself up and out, but that's the extent of his morning routine. Oh, and he 'forgot' he needed to tidy his little nesting corner until I snarled at him, so I'm sure we'll be talking about *that* later today.)

It was not a pretty morning, let me tell you.

In other, better news, I posted a story last night, yay! It's pure fluff, but it was for a prompt on my [community profile] trope_bingo card (and not one I thought I'd be dying to write, either), so whoo hoo, I already haven't been blanked out on that one (still not seeing where I'm going to go for a bingo, but we'll deal with that later.)

It was totally inspired by this picture. When it floated by on my tumblr dash, Darcy's voice popped into my head and told me the story. I just transcribed it. I love it when that happens, :D

“Not all talk is worthless,” Phil says, and Clint thinks he’s about to get the very sincere job-well-done sound bite, which, don’t get him wrong: he values that speech more than he can even process, but he hadn’t been fishing for an ego-boost. He’s about to say that when Phil continues, “For example, if I ask you what you’re wearing, I could see the ensuing conversation moving in some fascinating directions.”

random things:

  • Somehow (I suspect being packed into a tiny church with 200 other people for the funeral) I have a cold. It is, of course, the first day I can remember seeing blue skies in weeks and I am huddled under my quilt. bleh.

  • Oldest and I hung out and watched Hansel and Gretel: Witchhunters a couple of days ago, which was kindof fun. A little too bloody for my taste, especially since I felt like it wasted more than one potentially interesting plot point in favor of yet another exploding head. spoilers ) The boots they were wearing were awesome, though. :D

  • My mother has been giving me these sad-puppy eyes about how I don't ever get to write anything fun (because I'm not writing novels for publication) for the last few years, so this spring, I figured out how to edit an ePub, fiddled with you need a rock not a rolling stone (where "fiddled with" == "rewrote all the sex scenes to be not explicit, because: my *mother*"), explained the basics of fan fic, and put the file on her iPad right before we finished up Beach Week. Nerve.Wracking.

  • We have a slightly intimidating (for me, at least) number of cosplays in the works for DragonCon and 6 weeks to finish them up.
    1. Oldest is doing Fraction/Aja's Hawkeye and Hawkeye with one of his friends. There is an outside chance that another one of his friends (who is Russian and a redhead) will do Natasha with them and a more likely chance that L's boys will be Tracksuit Mafia-types. Mostly, we just need to track down purple sneakers for this, as he is all over the ratty jeans/t-shirt combo in RL.
    2. BabyBoy, #2Son & I are conspiring to be the young Redmond, Blutarch and the Administrator from Team Fortress 2, if I can find a purple suit. Still need bowlers and ribbon to trim/make string ties for the boys.
    3. #2 (who is the Maker Boy around here) is experimenting with inflatable octopi to see if we can adapt an existing steampunk persona of mine for something out of Walking Your Octopus: A Guidebook to the Domesticated Cephalopod.
    4. Oldest has something else going on, too, but all I know is that he needs a black suit and red hair dye. Getting the hair dye out is going to kill him, though he doesn't quite believe that.

::eyes list, tries not to just quit now::

...and finally, back to clearing out/sharing bookmarks and favorites:

Couldn't Get That Boy To Kill Me, by [archiveofourown.org profile] redbrunja, Avengers | MCU, Clint Barton/Natasha Romanoff, ~3200 words, Explicit === I love the jagged edges in this and how they fit together.

All You Have To Do Is Open Your Eyes, by [archiveofourown.org profile] torakowalski, The Losers, Cougar/Jensen, ~5500 words, Explicit === Cougar doesn't talk, but Jensen understands perfectly.

I'm running behind this week, so Reading Wednesday is happening today )

    …and today's bookmarks…
she blinded me with political science by [archiveofourown.org profile] thingswithteeth, Avengers | MCU, Darcy Lewis/Bruce Banner, ~61,800 words, Mature === This is nice and long and sets things up so that I can totally buy this account of how Darcy ends up dealing with the Avengers PR needs.

lifehack by [archiveofourown.org profile] edibleflowers, Avengers | MCU, Natasha Romanoff/Clint Barton, ~17,900 words, Mature === Very nice take on Hawkeye making the different call and how it might have gone after that, both good and bad and tying in with Natasha's "you know that I have," from the movie.
    topaz119: (needfulthings)
My brain is tired (family stuff, nothing new, just the continued worries re: health issues of kids and parents) so a bullet list is about all I've got energy for:

  • To add to the taut/taunt|there/they're/their|whose/who's|etc, etc, etc files (and brought to you by the ridiculous amount of Hawkeye-centric fic I've been reading): repel/rappel. Given how often Clint Barton takes a dive off a collapsing building, this is really starting to bug me. No, he does not force back the building, he descends by means of a rappel. I know you all know this already; thank you for listening.

  • Somewhere in there, I've managed to miss not only my 10th lj-versary (like, by a *year*; I'm coming up on my 11th!) but also that I've somehow managed to post more than 1000 things on tumblr. Who knew I had either of them in me?

  • In my quest to keep at least a tiny bit of separation between boys and their screens this summer, I stumbled upon diy.org, which has all kinds of cool projects and skills and promises to soon have actual patches available for purchase upon the completion of a skill set. My First Class Girl Scout heart is all aflutter!

Returning to my never-ending attempt to clear out my bookmarks:

escape from new york by [archiveofourown.org profile] beardsley, Avengers, Steve/Bucky, ~12,100 words, Mature === Poor Steve: sex pollen hits New York and he has no idea what to do. Note the sex pollen--if it's not your thing, be aware, but if it *is* your thing, this is lots of fun. The emotional center is Steve/Bucky, but you name a pairing/threesome/moresome and it's probably there, and in very good cheer.

so you were never a saint by [archiveofourown.org profile] paperclipbitch, Skyfall, gen with excellent Q|Moneypenny|Bond, ~12,300 words, Teen === This is one of those fics that I will have to consciously remove from my brain before I see the next movie, because it blends and extends canon so perfectly.
