hmmm, has anyone read The Girl in the Steel Corset? I feel like I've read someone's reaction to it, but I can't find it on any of the usual locations (goodreads, smart bitches, etc) so maybe it was one of y'all?
Thanks--the library doesn't have it and I'm trying to decide if I want to buy it. I love steampunk as a visual and participatory medium, but there are so few books that can manage that atmosphere AND tell a great story, too. I'm thinking I'll see if I can borrow it from someone in the steampunk scene around here.
I have the ebook or I'd send it on to you. I liked it and am looking forward to more from the author but there are some really fantastic steampunk books coming out that I'm falling in love with now that fandom is starting to grow!
Oh, I'd love to see your list! My own favorites are Cherie Priest's books, Scott Wesrerfield's YA trilogy, the Parasol Protectorate books, & Meljean Brooks series. My kids have gone to a summer creative writing camp & have gotten to know some writers & editors in the genre, too, and I always have a good time with the alt.history track at DragonCon
I've read the first in those and have the others but haven't read them. I'm horrible about continuing on a series because I don't like to read them back to back because the author changes tone so much between a first book and a second. Actually, I still need to read the Parasol Protectorate! Shame on me! But it's a series I own so I should get on that!
I really, really liked Lady of Devices by Shelley Adina but I think it's only a ebook series but it has A LOT of promise for being much more! I love it so much!
Also, Kiss of Steel by Bec McMasters was really well done! I can't wait for more by her.
Have you read The Court of Air by Stephen Hunt? It's on my shelf as is Whitechapel Gods by S. M. Peters.
