yuletide favorites
many, many holiday exchange stories made me happy this year. and then I lost the post--twice!--so I am tossing this first batch out there and retiring to the kitchen to de-stress with (more) baking.
From the Sacrificial Altar of the Concubine of Isis, by
anonymous, The Mummy, Evy/Rick, ~1700 words === Evy is annoyed. Imhotep is determined. Rick is late. What is a librarian to do?
No Harm Ever Came From Digging Up The Past, by
anonymous, The Mummy/Bone Key, gen, ~5000 words === Evy Carnahan and Claudia Coburn and an unpublicized incident during Howard Carter's most famous excavation in the Valley of the Kings. (pre-canon)
the little war, by
anonymous, Sharpe, Teresa Moreno/Richard Sharpe, ~29,500 words === I don't even know how to rec this, except to say that if you've ever seen any of Sean Bean's Sharpe series, no matter how long ago it was, go read this. Even if you haven't, this is emotionally gripping and incredibly well-written and you could do far far worse as an intro to the series. Heed the warnings, as this deals with how Teresa became the woman riding down out of the hills with the guerrillas, leading them and fighting alongside them, and it's not pretty but it is very true to the character. Seriously. Go read this.
Oh Please, As If The Colonel Would Really Retire, by
anonymous, The Montmaray Journals, gen, ~1200 words === Veronica and Simon bicker chat about the post-War world and what's to be done about it. Alternatively, how 'think globally, act locally' is a complete cop-out to Veronica FitzOsborne--she prefers to do it all. :D
Go As You Aren’t Day, by
anonymous, The Unusuals, gen (canon pairings), ~3600 words === Yay for more Second Squad, especially with the bonus evening wear. :D
The Stakeout, by
anonymous, The Unusuals, gen, ~1200 words === I could easily see this having happened at some point in canon.
Taking Care, by
anonymous, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Hunt/Brandt, Explicit, ~4000 words === This completely fits with my head canon about these two--never an easy couple, but worth the edges and attitudes.
I’m An Optimist (You’re A Clean Slate, Baby), by
anonymous, Avengers RPF, Scarlett/Jeremy, Teen, ~2300 words === There is not enough Avengers RPF in this world, but this one is an excellent addition.
a spring fling, by
anonymous, Avengers RPF, Scarlett/Chris Evans, Mature, ~5700 words === See above, re: not enough Avengers RPF in this world. This one is a great ensemble, with friendships and relationships and very blurred lines between.
