Arrow
I finished the season, thanks to some .eu website that had all the episodes, and… I did not expect that ending. Poor Tommy, but there was more actual emotion ricocheting around him in the (from both Oliver and Laurel) than there had been the rest of the season combined. I love Paul Blackthorne, too (even if I didn't quite ever buy him as Harry Dresden) so Quentin teaming up with Felicity was fun. Oh, and here's one thing I really did like: Felicity being calm and focused as they were trying to disarm The Device but then breaking down and crying when it wasn't enough and she was scared and alone. Most of the time female characters just get to cry, of course, but then when they're badass enough to disarm a bomb (and yay for this being not just physical badassery but more Barbara Gordon-esque), they usually don't get to show any emotion that's not rage-fueled. (Shado, for example: she gets to kick the shit out of people, but the only time she shows any other deep emotion is when her father is murdered--I assume she's back next year, though, so there's still time.) This show is kind of good about having lots of female characters across the good/evil/varying competencies spectrum--if only they didn't have such gaping plot holes. I can ignore them well enough (the plot holes) but I really want to like this show more than that. Of course, given that I started watching because of the cute Olicity .gifsets on tumblr (and the knowledge that several flisters found it watchable) I can't really complain.
*NSYNC/VMAs
YAY, THE RUMORS WERE TRUE!
BabyBoy is too young to really remember the sparkly days, though it's a family rule that you call mom if Backstreet or *NSYNC are on the TV (D just called me down for a BSB appearance last week… America's Got Talent, maybe?) Anyway, BB had the TV commandeered for the Phineas & Ferb/Marvel xover (now I really want to write Agent P into the MCU. Can you see the look on Cap's face?) so he was there when I wrested control and rewound the DVR. He doesn't do musical theater, but he's around it a lot in various workshops and going to see friends in productions and he had fun with Justin's dancers. He thought the group wasn't doing badly either, especially not for having next to no rehearsal time and not having been on stage for years. I'm telling you that so you know it's not just us being blinded by nostalgia (Trust me, he has zero problem telling me when I'm being old and stupid.) He and I did agree the lighting was helpful in camouflaging any gaps, but was also cool and added to the atmosphere.
Otherwise, I think the highlight of the weekend was finding purple shoes for the Team Fortress 2 Administrator cosplay that did not have 5" heels, thus saving me from a broken ankle later this week. And they were on clearance at the outlets, so they were cheap (my AmEx bill is looking for any positive it can find.) Also of the good was a menswear outlet that had cheap shirts and vests for the Redmond | Blutarch. We're slowly getting there, though the deadline is upon us.
And speaking of deadlines, my
marvel_bang story cracked 18K words this weekend, without the sex. I still am not exactly sure where I'm going with it, but I think I can have it in decent enough shape by Wednesday that I can turn in what's supposedly an 80% draft in good conscience (
wendy is laughing at me because she's seen what I've turned in for drafts before, but I'm trying to be better! Really! I hate to traumatize artists, even if I haven't ever missed a posting date if I got a draft in, no matter how rough it was.)
polybang is still there, too, though I think that's in the stage where I think I know what's going on and then I'll really dig in and it'll be a mess, but for now, we'll pretend it's all okay.)
...and I meant to finish and post this over lunch, but clearly that didn't happen, so I'll just end now and go to bed...

I loved writing your thoughts on Arrow. That about sums it up, although you have way more love for Paul Blackthorne than I do, I actually don't like him at all. But I agree with the women comment and the emotion at the end. Sadly I guessed the ending the ep before, told the hubby, I was still hoping I was wrong, but sadly, Tommy is no more. That makes me sad.
But the plot holes, *sigh* Maybe season two will be better. One of the things I enjoy about the show are the flashbacks, it's almost as thogh we are watching two shows. I like how those have been handled. I'm looking forward to season two.
Good luck with the marvel_bang and have a great time this weekend. :)

But wait. Are you saying that the remaining 20% of yours will be sex? Glory be ... :-)
