hi, hi, thanks for playing along with me!

I. Important Moments of Your Reading Life
I still remember being in 2nd grade (so, maybe 7?ish) and lying in bed reading The Wizard of Oz one Saturday morning and just loving it.

N. Number of Bookcases You Own
ahahaha, oh god... I have floor-to-ceiling bookshelves the entire length of the family room, so, about 22 ft/7m long. And then there's a 2m high set of shelves in my office, 2 narrow-but-tall Ikea shelves in the boys' playroom, a lower set in each of their bedrooms (so, 3 more) and over-the-desk shelves in the corner of the kitchen.

P. Preferred Place to Read
In a bath, but I will read anywhere.

R. Reading Regret
I regret nothing. :D Or, maybe not ever buying all those Uncanny X-Men comics back when I was in high school, just so I could give them to my kids now.

[identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2014-08-05 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
hi, thanks for playing!

J. Just Finished
I just finished Heirs and Graces (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15808340-heirs-and-graces), which is the most recent of a cozy mystery series. Plus, I just finished listening to Stormfront (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/47212.Storm_Front), the first Dresden book, and I am tearing through comic arcs on Marvel Unlimited (the Phoenix / Dark Phoenix and Days of Future Past arcs of Uncanny X-Men and the Reunion arc with Hawkeye and Mockingbird.)

H. Hidden Gem Book
The Thirteenth Tale (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/40440.The_Thirteenth_Tale), which is a modern gothic and something I couldn't put down.

[identity profile] ladymercury-10.livejournal.com 2014-08-05 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I read Dark Phoenix and Days of Future Past recently too! :)

[identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2014-08-05 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Dark Phoenix is what got me into comics, back when I was in high school. I was just so sucked in, like a soap opera on paper...

[identity profile] ladymercury-10.livejournal.com 2014-08-05 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Oh cool! I picked it up because I am enjoying time-travel baby Jean in All-New X-Men and I wanted to get more into her history. :)

Also I read Hawkeye #19 too. :D

[identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2014-08-05 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, and I should also include Hawkeye 19 in my Just Finished because I read that about 10 times last Wednesday!

[identity profile] alphaflyer.livejournal.com 2014-08-05 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Comics count as books? Whee! I finished that one too ... :-)

[identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2014-08-06 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I think we can count whatever we want, right? ;)

That being said, I probably wouldn't have counted a single issue but I have been waiting for that issue for so long and it hit all my buttons and I read it over and over and over last Wednesday, so it certainly felt like I'd gotten the emotional payoff from a book.

B and W

[identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2014-08-05 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
hiiiii, kaelie!

B. Best Sequel Ever
Oh, I have to go with Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, because I was reading it out loud to the boys (they were too young to be able to read it on their own) and we were doing the one-chapter-a-night thing, until we got to where [spoiler redacted] got taken by [other spoiler redacted] and we all three turned to each other and said WE HAVE TO FINISH IT TONIGHT and my voice was shredded by the time everyone was safe again. :D

W. Worst Bookish Habit
I KEEP BUYING THEM, OMG. My tag of books-i-own-but-havent-read on goodreads is ridiculous and yet, there I was today, picking up another Julia Chase from amazon. sigh.

[identity profile] kaelie.livejournal.com 2014-08-05 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
hiiiiiiiii Miss Missy!

Is your purchasing addiction for paper books, or e-books? I'm finding the e-book addiction to be seriously dangerous, because I don't have a physical reminder (as in teetering piles of books) to remind me of how many I have.

[identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2014-08-06 11:49 am (UTC)(link)
e-books! I subscribe to one of those blogs that consolidate the daily deals across all the booksellers and then it's soooooo easy to click over and snag things that look interesting. I *try* to hit the library first, but you know how that goes...

During a bout of boring meetings earlier this year, I sat with my kindle/ibooks/comixology accounts open on my phone and added everything that was there to my goodreads and tagged it so I could keep track of what I had. It's sort of a virtual teetering pile now--mostly, I think I'm trying to keep that number under triple digits, ack!

U and V, please!

[identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2014-08-05 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
hi, thanks for playing along and distracting me today!

U. Unapologetic Fangirl For
Romance! and YA. But mostly romance! Jennifer Crusie makes me choke with laughter sometimes and Julia Chase makes me feeeeeel and everything I know about medieval England & Wales I learned from Roberta Gellis. I ♥ it (which is probably why it's almost all I write, too.)

V. Very Excited For This Release More Than Any Other
v. v. impatient for Hawkeye #20 and then the third book of Maureen Johnson's Shades of London series is out next March.

[identity profile] msktrnanny.livejournal.com 2014-08-05 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
F, O, and T, please!

Read HP aloud to 'my' boys on that same format. Some great memories from that, thanks for the reminder.

KC! How are you?! I have a package for you (from a year ago, eep! Are you still at the same address?)

F. Fictional Character You Would Have Dated In High School
Oh, when I was in high school, I was allllll about Scottish history--I wallowed in it. So, the youngest brother of Clan MacHugh would have done nicely (Bride of the MacHugh (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1593126.Bride_of_the_MacHugh).) In a less obscure choice, Jamie Fraser from Outlander, :D

Of course, I really didn't date in high school (between the Scottish obsession, the comic books and all the AP math and sciences, can you wonder?) so Nancy Drew's mostly absent, but always supportive boyfriend Ned probably would have been a much better fit!

O. One Book That You Have Read Multiple Times
ONE? ahahahahaha... I reread constantly, especially when I'm too tired for something new and just need to slide into a comfortable old world. Anything by Rosamunde Pilcher or Roberta Gellis is fair game there, and I have select Maeve Binchy's and Mary Stewart's that are falling apart from being read so much over the years. I'll go with September (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/116053.September), because it's getting on toward that time. (Oh, look, Scotland again.)

T. Three Of Your All-Time Favorite Books
oy. hmmm. This is going to be so random, but here's what popped into my head: From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3980.From_the_Mixed_Up_Files_of_Mrs_Basil_E_Frankweiler), because I *still* want to run away and live at the Met; The Grand Sophy (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6271225-the-grand-sophy), because I love how everyone finds someone who makes them happy (though I am contemplating literally cutting out the egregiously anti-Semitic section and burning it and I'll never pay for another copy again); and I'll finish with The Lord of the Rings, because I can still lose myself in Middle Earth even after all these years (and movies!)
