2020

Okay, y’all, here’s the thing: the first of the Beach Week kids are getting married, next November, not far from here. This means L & I (it’s her kid not mine!) will be hosting the rest of the BW families, because they *are* family and they’re traveling a long way and we want them to stay with *us*, not some hotel, at least not until we all decamp to the winery that is hosting the actual wedding.

This means that I need to clear out the junk heap that has taken over my spare bedroom and generally get my house in order so people who are not my kids can stay here. This is… A Lot, y’all. I have already been overwhelmed by this, which is why it’s so out-of-control now, but I have 10 months, more-or-less, to do this. I want to go hide, but I want my Found Family to come and stay with me more, so I’m breathing into a paper bag and trying not to freak out.

Please prepare yourself for 2020: The Year of the Great UFY(My)H. (If I get too weird, I promise to make a filter and not be offended at all if you nope right on out of it.)

Also, I signed up for [community profile] getyourwordsout at the 200K level so possibly I will finish some of the fic that’s been hanging around in folders for nearly a decade. Possibly also one of the almost-there novels, too. Or, y’know, start more things to languish in the folders. Either way, words are words at this point, and it’s all good.

This is it for 2020: Dig out my house, write a bunch of words.

You can do it!!!! I unfucked my house when I changed jobs (part A unfucking was when I had the flood and had to, part B unfucking was when I decided i JUST COULD NOT EVEN move with all that shit). And you know the story I think...22 boxes of shredding, over 20 boxes of books, and a half-garage (literally) of donations...and a full Got Junk truck. YOU CAN DO IT! (aka if I can, anyone can, and probably better)

Good luck!

And I second the concept of "If I can do it, you can too!"

Good luck writing all the words!

I'll cheer you on. I need a good UFYH and UFYOffice in my own life because I'm moving offices at work and Mike is finally acknowledging that Eldest has moved out so we may tackle her bedroom which will require a cascade of UF-ing.

One of the Good Things with the foreign service nomadic life style is that you get to purge your life every few years. In theory, anyway. One of the Bad Things is that abroad you tend to live in much bigger places than at home, and then when you come back (purged or not) you have to wedge everything into a MUCH SMALLER HOUSE, including stuff that comes out of storage that you haven't seen, thought of or needed for four years ("Why do we even have that thing??"). So, yeah. I sympathize. You can do this!!!

I, on the other hand, still haven't surfaced from our last transatlantic move in October, and I'll be missing garage sale season because I'm being sent away again until July. Gack.

PS: I'm not complaining, I love the travelling life, but the moving your stuff thing is soul-crushing.

Yep - going to Dublin until July! If you make it before I leave I may have a bed available, although I have to warn you: the line is beginning to form! This assignment seems vastly more popular than Accra, for some reason... :P
