I finally slept last night, and since I'd already decided not to go into the office today, I didn't set an alarm, so I went to bed at 9 and woke up at 10, which is, uh, wow. A lot.
I made a quick trip to the store while D was in PT and even at 12:30 in the afternoon and me only looking for random things that I'd forgotten on my (paranoid, according to my in-laws) big stock-up trips, it was pretty crazy. By 2:30, as we were on the way home, you couldn't get into the parking lot at the Costco we drove past.
I am going into the office tomorrow to hand over my access badge and laptop, etc, and then the new company has already switched things up to where I'm going in on Monday morning to show them my I-9 paperwork (right to work in the US) and getting my new laptop set up, and then we're doing the rest of orientation and stuff remotely.
#2Son is on spring break next week, but isn't going back in person until further notice. BabyBoy won't have classes next week and will be home at some point--he's staying to make sure people have a place to go, as his school has a lot of non-US students. They start online classes the week after that.
So, everyone will be home, all together, how cozy.
Thank goodness we haven't done the empty-nest, smaller house thing yet.
I'm trying to knock together a hopepunk rec list for the geek blog I write for occasionally, for while we're all at home and stressed. I think I'm going to have to first define what I mean, because I keep seeing things that say it's all sunny and optimistic stuff, but that's not what I'm talking about (and I don't think that's what it meant originally.) Sunny and optimisic is for escapism, which is also a perfectly valid option, but right now, I need something that says the point of it all is to keep fighting the good fight -- the Hobbits, keeping on keeping on in the middle of war and horror; the soul squad of The Good Place, fighting on because that's what's right; so much of Terry Pratchett's work; The Expanse; all of the Treks...
I'm not going to be able to rec fic there, but I might do that here.
Anyway, stay safe and take care of yourself and your community, ♥
