2019 Year in Writing Meme
Backdating from later in 2020 because the beginning of the year was a zoo...
Previous years: 2018 |2017 | 2016 | 2015 | 2014 | 2013 | 2012 | 2011 | 2010 | 2009 | 2008 | 2007 | 2006 | 2005 | 2004
two days in canto bight === Solo | Star Wars, Han/Lando (~12,500 words)
Survival Is Insufficient === Star Trek: Discovery, Chris Pike/Ash Tyler (~9800 words)
Take It On Faith === Star Trek: Discovery, Chris Pike/Ash Tyler (~23,800 words)
all your perfect imperfections === Star Trek: Discovery, Chris Pike/Sylvia Tilly (~32,100 words written/posted in 2019)
So, that's almost 78K+ words, not counting all the stuff I wrote on random other, still unfinished files across all kinds of fandoms (plus original). I almost won NaNoWriMo, which is unprecedented, but nothing really got finished.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you never would've guessed? Who knew Christopher Pike was going to jump *that* hard on my id? Of course, I ended up with two super-rare pairs, but it's not like that's such a surprise.
What's your own favorite story of the year? I didn't finish imperfections, so I'm going with Take It On Faith, because I had so much fun with Risa and all the complications it took to get there. (Plus, I totally indulged myself with the fluffy Mojave epilogue.)
Did you take any writing risks this year? My biggest 'risk' was to drop the accident as the beginning prologue-ish thing for imperfections, which meant I *had* to write up to the accident in the main story rather than just leaving it at the resolution of the romantic arc.
My best story of this year: Take It On Faith was a lot more than I initially thought it would be.
My most popular story of this year: two days in canto bight -- Smut + Han/Lando
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: As mentioned previously, the Pike pairings are the rarest of pairs so their audiences are limited.
Most fun story to write: canto bight -- There was the tiiiiniest bit of plot/character development, but not so much that I had to stop and really think about what might happen next.
Story with the single sexiest moment: I think it's a tie between Han deliberately asking Lando to restrain him during sex and Pike and Tyler figuring out what to do with all that UST.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: The angry sex in Faith? I mean, it's not really wrong, but it's not exactly healthy either.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: I spent a lot of time in Christopher Pike's head this year and I had to really think through some of the story arcs from Disco and how that fit with who I thought he was previously.
Hardest story to write: No, really, how exactly do I reconcile the character I carry in my head for Captain Pike with engaging in an affair with someone very much younger and in his chain of command? Answer: future fic!
Biggest Disappointment: All of the things that did not get done. Again.
Biggest Surprise: Faith -- I seriously thought the PWP of Survival was all I had to say about Pike & Tyler, but then there I was plotting out all kinds of rendezvous.
Most Unintentionally Telling Story: Nobody can tell that I have a thing for pilots, even after all these years, right? (aka, alllll the Pike)
Fic-writing goals for 2020: Finish things!
