cosplay + fic==my weekend
Good morning, my lovelies!
(Yes, this is weird Monday morning cheeriness from me, but I'm not going to question it.)
It is T-minus 3 days until DragonCon and things are starting to fall into place. Most importantly, WHOOHOO, there is an acceptable hotel in the bag – the Hyatt Place (not the RiotHyatt, but the one a block north.) I'd still like the Hilton, but this actually has many pluses, not the least of which are free internet and free breakfast (which is a considerable plus, given how the HoB can run up my AmEx balance with food.) If BabyBoy wasn't planning on extensive gaming (at the Hilton until all hours of the night) I'd be super-happy w/the HP.
In cosplay news, we spent a ridiculous amount of time putting together BabyBoy's Attack on Titan Survey Corps harness/vertical maneuvering belt/thingie (I just procure; I have no idea what half this stuff is.) We got the shoulder stuff sorted out, but the leg straps remain a mystery. The Skyrim Thieves' Guild/Maven Blackbriar rigs are looking pretty good—except we're probably going to pass out from the heat, because, while we've had a semi-reasonable summer, we're looking at 90+ degrees for the weekend, ugh.
I also took a really long, hard look at my schedule and all and decided that there was no way I was going to get a draft done for the
marvel_bang deadline, so… I let go of trying to make the story I've been working on be done for that. I mean, I probably *could* have made the draft, but at the expense of some seriously late nights and giving my accompanying artist/vidder/mixer an even messier draft than I usually do (which is seriously saying something, because I've been known to add 30,000 words after turning in Big Bang drafts.) While this is a sensible decision, it made me a raving bitch grumpy when I thought about it. And I could tell I'd be tempted to try to get a draft done, which was going to kill DragonCon (see, I did that last year, but I only had a couple thousand words to go at this point, and it still made the run-up to DC nuts, and this year was going to be much worse, but try telling that to my brain), sooooo, what I ended up doing was finishing off the first part (which needed less than 500 words and a good edit) and posting it as a WiP, which basically removes it from
marvel_bang eligibility. Tricksy, but effective.
I do actually know where I'm going with this whole thing, and I definitely will finish it (hopefully before I get jossed by Agents of SHIELD and *definitely* before I get Jossed by Age of Ultron, so if you'd like to check it out, it's on AO3, in deep with you darling, ~7900 words (for now), Clint/Darcy, post-Thor (also, for now)

I'm up to about 10 k and the whole thing will run probably around 30k, all in. Last time I handed in 22k and it turned into 35, once I'd written the missing two chapters and added stuff in the editing phase. No one complained... ;-) By tomorrow I should have about 14-15 k, and enough for my artist partner to start playing. So I'm planning on staying the course!
My biggest problem was that I started with one story which turned into something completely different, and for a while my brain insisted on keeping both halves. Marrying them up resulted in complete paralysis, and it was only after deciding to ditch the original concept ENTIRELY that I managed to find a way forward.
