omg, soso in de-tox from the con weekend. It's always this way -- I realized as I was packing up on Thursday afternoon that there were still bits and pieces from last year's cosplays in the bags I was trying to put stuff in this year. Clearly, I am v. v. good at ignoring shit that I don't want to deal with, yeah?

Giant sadface for not ever managing to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] alittleblue and [livejournal.com profile] kachera, but the rest of the weekend went well. We got to watch the parade from under a nice, shady tree, which made it *so* much more pleasant; we also managed to snag reservations at decent restaurants (on the fly, nothing really more than an hour or two in advance) so that I at least don't have a fast-food hangover (this is where I swear on all I hold dear that I did not order that Walking Dead burger I posted on tumblr, I just have awesome friends); and my immediate family all happened to be tucked up in various panels/lounges/dealer rooms when the thunderstorm blew through on Saturday afternoon and brought the entire Hilton/Marriott/Hyatt walkway to a gridlocked, claustrophobic standstill.

Every year I think I have a plan, and then I get there and everything I thought I knew ends up OBE and the real con begins. I did post a few pics on tumblr, but I only had my phone, so none of the Mechanical Masquerade pics came out, :(

Also, it's Wednesday, so, books:

finished
Fool Moon, book 2 (the werewolf one) of Jim Butcher's Dresden Files (the HoB sat in on a panel (or two) of his this weekend, so hey, it's a theme.) I'm listening to these on audiobooks, and while I'm not completely sucked in, they are doing their part in disengaging me from all the office annoyances, which is all I ask. The boys assure me things pick up with the next book, so I'm looking forward to that.

now
Boy, Snow, Bird, Helen Oyeyemi, which I am enjoying far more than I anticipated. It has a style that I think you either love or hate and I am definitely on the love side. Also, BabyBoy and I are listening to Neverwhere on the way to school in the morning. It's the BBC radioplay, so not quite a book, but we're counting it.

next
Book 3 of the Dresden Files and then I have a ton of graphic novels from the library that I need to finish up and return.

If, y'know, I survive getting the house cleared up enough that the lady who cleans for me can find horizontal surfaces to be cleaned.

Ciao, bellas!

I felt like Boy Snow Bird got better and better towards the end.

I really don't want to spoil anything because the end part of the book is awesomesauce, but it's worth reading to the end.

Glad you enjoyed your con weekend!

Ooh, what graphic novels are in your library pile?

The con was super-fun, but totally exhausting. I've been staggering home from work every day and it took more brain-power than it really should have to even fix dinner for the kids this week.

I have Wonder Woman: Eyes of the Gorgon, and Batwoman: Elegy from the library -- we kept the Marvel Unlimited subscription for at least another month, so I pushed all my DC titles to the top of the library list. So far, WW is really good.

Ooh, Batwoman: Elegy is sooo pretty. I haven't read Eyes of the Gorgon, but Greg Rucka also wrote Wonder Woman: The Hiketeia and that's one of my favorite comics.

Eyes of the Gorgon is one of those books that keeps floating past my tumblr dash so I finally got my act together to actually read it.

Also, hah! It's a RuckaFest!
