request & catching up

Request first: I'm about to spend 13 hours in a car over the weekend, just me, so I'm looking for long-ish podfic recs. Almost any fandom will work, just point me to your favorites? merci.

books -- I, uh, put down Boy, Snow, Bird and haven't picked it back up again. The library is getting snippy about it, too. (due dates, sigh.) I'm sort of reading 10% Happier, and still listening to the third Dresden book and the BBC Neverwhere production.

tv -- I watched 9? 10? episodes of Once Upon a Time this weekend, so I'm all caught up there and wow, I might have to skip Peter Pan's Flight the next few times we hit the theme park, because I'm not shaking that characterization any time soon. The boys will be super-thrilled to drop that line, though.

In further TV news, my beautiful crack has come back to meeeee aka, Sleepy Hollow, 2x01 spoilerish babble
Ichabod's cross-bow has a laser sight, gleeee. Franklin takes air baths, snerk. Ichabod will return for Abbie! Abbie will hold fast! god, I love this show.

Avengers:
In Which Tony Stark Builds Himself Some Friends (But His Family Was Assigned by Nick Fury) by scifigrl47 - read by hananobira - The whole series runs over 19 hours!

Merlin:
The Student Prince by FayJay - read by FayJay is always a total joy to re-listen to. Time: over 15 hours.
Arcane Asylum by new_kate - read by sophinisba - Another terrible enchanting Merlin tale. Over 12 hours long.

Star trek Reboot:
Illogical (√π233/hy7) by waldorph - read by 2naonh3_cl2 - I'm always mesmerized but how well this story conveys different POVs and how each one of us is really the hero of his own tale. Over 14 hours long.

SGA:
The Retrograde Verse by ltlj (plus SVMadelyn story) - read by kyizi, lunate8, Arwen_Lune & mific - One of my favorite series ever, read by some truly talented podficcers. An absolute joy. Over 11 hours long.
Also the classic Written By The Victors by Speranza - read by multiple readers - Over 5 hours long.
And Transcendental by Astolat - read by general_jinjur - Over 4 hours long.

Doctor Who/Torchwood:
Get Loved, Make More, Try to Stay Alive by Dira Sudis - read by superstitiousme - So perfect. Over 7 hours long.

Sherlock:
An Avalanche Of Detour Signs by gyzym - read by magicranberries - Over 5 hours long.

Also some not-podfics from the Librivox archive:
Right Ho, Jeeves and My Man Jeeves, written by P. G. Wodehouse and read by Mark Nelson. Some of the most hilarious stuff I ever listened to. Respectively over 7 and 5 hours long.

;)

I'll second Student Prince, Illogical, and Retrograde and add a few I've relistened to more than once...

Bandom klb, Forever, Now (my first bandom fic which caused my headlong fall. Very AU and kid!fic, but I tend to dislike kids, and this story just tore my heart--My Chemical Romance mostly). Really great recordings of the sequels by argentumlupine HERE. Both readers are among my favorites!) ~9h

If you want really long and really AU, I adore reena jenkins's Screaming Down the Starlit Sky It's basically a music video AU with every bandom character in there. The AU world is a complex vampire universe that feels a bit like Vampire The Masquerade but is basically drawn from this one Fallout Boy video/. And I knew NONE of that when I started reading it and still enjoyed the heck out of it, basically as funky OCs. And Reena's really great here! ~15 h.

Hockey isweedan Enough to Crush Your Veins (my first Hockey fic...there seems to be a pattern here :) It's a road not taken AU, again with kid, but again totally tolaerable, except it's definitely very cute! But in comfort podfic I like that kinda stuff. ~9h

rhea314 If Heaven's Hypothetical (another of the really early ones I listened to, same pairing as the other, and I really don't tend to read them, but both stories hit weird kinks of mine clearly. This is AU but they find each other and also road not taken, one isn't in their profession) ~7h

MCU Liannabob's Refrain (mostly gen with a little Tony/Pepper, action focused) ~ 1-h

OK, so this clearly shows my own tendencies in long podfic--I don't like experimental or complicated in my long stuff. I want either heavy H/C or weird long drawn out UST with happy ending. I like Clint/Coulson, so I'm reccing Liannebob's Through a Glass Darkly (heavy angst!!! mind control) ~6h or Arsenic's As Is (sleve!Clint...) !6h

And I've recently discovered my liking for Mary Sue!Darcy with all the guys, including She Blinded Me With Political Science (Darcy/Bruce, ~6h) and Five Things Darcy Loves Working for SHIELD (Darcy/Steve, ~6h), both gorgeously voiced by Litra, and Kalakirya's you need a rock not a rolling stone (Darcy/Clint, 4h)

DS Dira Sudis's Hawks and Hands is an older recording and even older story, but I just relistened, and it still holds up. Fraser and Ray as hockey players with lots of canon tie ins... ~26h

GK Chemm80's Don't You Shake Alone (Yeah, I seem to listen to nothing but kid fic--here baby--but it's really about PTSD and Brad trying to help Nate and negotiating their relationship, all beautifully read by Chemm80) ~ 7h

XM If you can handle various readers and like XM, you might enjoy Yahtzee's Winter of Banked Fires It's XMFC and X3 compliant and my personal head canon... ~7h

SPN I love worldbuilding, and this story has some major one. It's Dean/Sam, but they kinda don't know one another? Also: Angels!!! Crinklysolution, Kant's Dove ~4h

Likewise, Tenoko's Convenient Husbands creates a different world with hunters and a more apoca world. Dean/Cas. ~4h

[ETA: I forgot Teen Wolf!!!
Mothlight's <"http://archiveofourown.org/works/912147">Play It Again and Misfire (both time travel and AU) ~10h; ~4h

Chemm80 World That Turn on Their Own (future fic) ~6h]

Oh man, I feel like I can go on and on, but not knowing which fandoms or tropes/kins/squicks you prefer makes is harder... Anyway, hope you'll find something for your trip!!!

Nods. Yes! Like I adore Written By the Victors, but it's multiple document style (and the different readers) just didn't work for me.

I've noticed that I like lots of action in my podfic, which, I think, is why I tend to love a lot of AUs with tons of world building. I also have begun to come to a 3-6 hour ideal podfic length. I'll listen to much longer ones, but often the stories don't hold up (i.e., when I read them, I can skim, whereas listening you.hear.every.word!!!)

Let us know what you liked! And maybe you'll discover a new fandom :) [I have fandoms I've never read, only listened...after all, there's much less podfic and they're already presorted and recced!]

Why did you spend 13 hours in a car?

I drove over to my parents' house for a couple of days, just to check in on them and take care of a few things for them. It was actually closer to 15 hours, because of highway construction, but I did keep myself entertained with some podfic and an audiobook, so it wasn't too bad.
