random fannish stuff

You know, I've been around one fandom or another for a really, really long time, and I am totally on board with how we all view the same source from different angles and that's fine, really, it is. It's awesome. That being said, wow, there are people watching Agents of SHIELD who are coming at it from another planet and seemed to have missed vast swathes of what I thought I was seeing (aka, my blacklist groweth on tumblr.)

Of course, then I was skimming my weekly round of Disney World blogs and ran smack dab into the hissy fits being thrown over the Sunshine Tree Terrace swapping places with Aloha Isle and how it's all an internal conspiracy against WDW and anything that was actually Floridian in the parks, so hey, the AoS crazies are looking kind of low-key again.

Current debate in the HoB: Marvel marathon, yea or nay? (the geek in me says, "HELL TO THE YEAH," but the semi-responsible mother says, "SCHOOL. FINALS. WEDNESDAY NIGHT. ETC.") It is #2Son's birthday, so that is a consideration. (And there is swag. My office board is looking a little un-updated recently... See how my brain works?)

I'm not spending money on stuff right now, but if I was, I'd totally go for these Hawkeye/Black Widow leggings from welovefine.

How's everyone else doing?

I know I am in no way up for a 10 movie marathon, but if you can do it, go for it!

Doing good!

I start the 23rd- I have to go to Boston for orientation for a week, which corresponds with Muskrat Jamboree that weekend nicely!

I too know have seen some stuff out of the Agents of SHIELD fandom that... I'll say it puzzles me, mostly around character interpretation. But after how many years in fandom, I'm not terribly surprised (tho sometimes I wish I were :()

God luck with the marathon, I would both love to do that and be intimidated by the commitment

I'm good, trying to get back to writing after a) time away and b) reading the most wonderful Bucky + Steve recovery fic. I've recced it over on my dw if you're interested :)

Totally with you on the AOS crazies. It's beginning to actually turn me off the show.

I would LOVE to do that marathon. Alas, I'll be having a new knee on March 27 and I doubt I'll be able to sit in the same place for 29 hours wherever it is. Maybe by Christmas ...

oh, somewhere around here I have my list of rules for enjoying fandom, and the very first one is "When fandom is pissing you off, go back to the source." I think I first wrote those down a decade ago and they have served me well over the years. I am taking my own advice and adding to my tumblrsavior blacklist with reckless abandon.

As for the marathon, yes, fine, I guess a new knee takes precedence. ;)

[identity profile] alphaflyer.livejournal.com 2015-03-08 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
This being my first encounter with the truly idiotic side of fandom (I'm still new here ...) I think I need a copy of those rules? I'll trade you for my 15 rules of diplomacy!

And we'll probably be doing the pre-AoU marathon at home, over a couple of days via BluRay.

Absolutely -- I just hunted down the original and reposted it here on lj!

Have missed the AoD nuts, but geesh with the Disney crazies! The Dole Whip stand has needed larger frontage since its inception! As long as they don't deep six orange bird again (which I doubt, he's churning them good lettuce at present) I don't see a problem. Wait until they allget wind of the deets in the hub expansion. They've been frothing at the bit over the little piece that's finished already,

They're only doing b2b Avengers here and I think I've lucked out. The Marathon sounds amazing. And really really long. Guess it really is time to buckle down and see Steve II.

Let's just say the big reversal in the middle of S1 is still reverberating through fandom and some people still Don't Like It At All, Not Even A Tiny Bit.

Have you not seen Winter Soldier? !!! I think it might be my favorite of the entire run. We'll have to see about the whole marathon -- it's in the middle of the week and at least one kid can't miss school, so I don't know if I can pull it off, but I did a 24-hour thing back in the 80s, so there is precedence!

I've been following along with the pictures of the new hub (after the last year of waaaaaalllllllls, I honestly am just glad to see them coming down) and finally managed to see old/new maps and get the changes sorted out in my head. Thank goodness they put the little bronze character statues back in the new areas--I'm sure there would have been mass hysteria if they'd gone away for good. Now we just have the very center part and the rose garden to go?

Current debate in the HoB: Marvel marathon, yea or nay?

I vote nay. Speaking personally, I do not enjoy marathons (two movies is my max) so by the time Avengers 2 rolled out, I would want more than anything to just go home. (Same reason I'm going to try to get a 9 p.m Thursday showing instead of one of midnight. I want to be rested enough to FULLY ENJOY the movie).

I did something like it once a long time ago, and I think the key was to get up and move around (and go home during the boring movies and come back for the fun ones) but I was younger then and had less sense.

And this is starting on a Wednesday, so I don't know if I want to kill the rest of the week for it. But maybe coming and going? Or maybe I'll just get all the DVDs and we can work through them in all of April.

For what movies?

Or maybe I'll just get all the DVDs and we can work through them in all of April.

That sounds way more fun to me.

oh, it was back in the 80s and there was lots of Eddie Murphy (a couple of the Beverly Hills Cop movies and 48 Hours) and the first of the Trek movies and a Friday the Thirteenth/Halloween or two.

Picture me doing this with my office-mate, who had been raised in an extremely conservative family, to the point of not ever seeing a movie until she was out of college. (It was her idea, even though her husband & I were sort of 'ehhhh, I don't know if you're going to like *these* movies'...)

She clearly wanted to jump in the deep end!

I think some people have way too much time on their hands.

[identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2015-03-08 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
...or they can't let go of what they wanted it to be and make a decision about what it *is*. It's reminding me of those parts of SPN fandom that I worked hard to keep out of my fannish life.

[identity profile] ladymercury-10.livejournal.com 2015-03-10 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, oh no, what are people saying about AoS?

[identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2015-03-10 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, let's just say a lot of people still have not processed that Grant Ward was not fighting on the side of the angels and are continually upset that he has not been treated like the precious snowflake that he is by the rest of the team.

For the record, I actually *like* that Ward has reasons why he was with HYDRA that have everything to do with a loyalty that was warped by his past. I like that he's not on anybody's side now, except his own. I think Brett Dalton is playing the hell out of the character and has actually brought a lot of subtlety to what could have been an one-note character. I just don't blame Melinda May for beating the shit out of him when she had the chance.

[identity profile] ladymercury-10.livejournal.com 2015-03-11 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
People are still arguing about that? Has he even been on the show since it came back from the mid-season hiatus?

[identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2015-03-16 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
No? Which they see as "ridiculous" and proof of some sort of conspiracy and that's about when I decided we were really watching totally different shows.
