Tonight's dinner conversation Chez HoB:

Boys: rapid fire discussion of upcoming Hunger Games movie, leading to theft of my phone to google casting.

Me: Wait, why did nobody tell me Lenny Kravitz is playing Cinna?!!!

Boys: uhhhhh, who's Lenny Kravitz?

Me: oh, dear god, GIVE ME THAT PHONE

Boys: keep very still, the fit will pass soon

They did, however, say immediately upon viewing one of his videos, 'oh, yeah, he looks good,' so I am vindicated.

I'm pretty sure the parenting 'experts' did not have these kinds of conversations in mind when they advocate for family dinners, but whatever. It works for us. :D

hee!

hey, you guys were at least at the table--I'm afraid we sat on the couch and watched Men in Black (still awesome!) during dinner tonight.

Well, the only reason we were at a table was because we had spaghetti and meatballs and the chance of runaway meatballs/disaster on the carpets is v. v. high. :D

I tutor a 13-year-old and we have more of those conversations than I care to admit. I'm always like, "WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DON'T KNOW TLC OR THE SPICE GIRLS??? WHO ARE YOU???"

I recently referenced the movie Clueless in a conversation with my 17-year-old cousin and she just stared at me blankly. I swear. Kids today. :)

hah--yes! Except I can't figure out how they've missed LK with me for a mom. Every up-tempo playlist I have has one of his songs on it.

I seriously can't figure out they (with me for a mom) have never actually heard of LK.

Donald Sutherland as President Snow makes me happy!

Many things about that movie are making me happy. I hope it all holds together for real.

Anne is now reading the book (I've just finished the 3rd one and read another book I actually threw away when finished--shudder). I told her to hurry up and finish so we could go together.

Have you gone yet? We braved the Friday night crowds and saw it in a packed theater and I think it got major thumbs-up from everyone. Donald Sutherland was fantastically slimy as Snow.

We've not gone yet, but we will. She's finished the book and complained about the amount of kissing and she's starting to "bloom" in the chest area. I'm so not prepared for this. But I can shepherd her through identifying with Katniss. Tomboys rule!

[identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2012-03-26 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
The kissing in the movie was almost incidental -- clearly a result of the Games & the games that forces them to play (not that it's not sincere, just that they're obviously under massive stress.) Can you tell I'm Team Gale? Jennifer Lawrence is outstanding as Katniss--and Woody Harrelson surprised the hell out of me.

I am so excited, our 8th graders read that book this year, and we are seeing it 10 AM opening day. We rented out an entire theater. :)

Oh, that's cool! I hope you have a great time!

*whee*

You have the coolest kids. :) I am traveling to visit friends for the premiere- we actually bought advance tickets for the cushy leather reserved seats, we are *that* stoked. \o/

The 6th grade field trip is on opening day so we have to go to a later showing because we're not sure BabyBoy will be back on time, but no one wants to wait for Saturday.
