resurfacing

So, you know, it’s always good to do a friending meme and introduce yourself and add interesting people and have others add you… and then disappear for a week or two.

Um, oops?

Sorry!

Hello to the new people! (and to the rest of you, too, who’ve been hanging around here for a decade or so, ILU.) The me (lj) | me (dw) tag has an introduction and assorted random posts (like favorite movies and books, etc.) Feel free to poke around and interact as much or as little as you’re comfortable with.

At least the disappearing act was for a fun reason: the Annual Epcot Food & Wine trip was last weekend, \o/. There was food! And wine! And I got a tiara! (I don’t know why, just that my friend L walked up and handed me what she assured me was a Belle (my favorite Disney princess) tiara, and that no, it wasn’t the $200 one from the shop in the Mexican pyramid so I shouldn’t worry about losing it. (She’d started making noises about how I needed a tiara then, but I put it down to the tasting flights of tequila layered on top of half a World Showcase worth of wine. Clearly, the idea stuck.)

Happily enough, it was really comfortable and hey, it was Disney World—nobody even blinked at the sight of a 50ish woman wearing a crown. So, yeah, I have sparkly headgear in about half the pictures from the weekend. It’s not the strangest thing that’s ever happened on one of these weekends.

Also happily, #2Son was the kid who drove down with me. BabyBoy had non-stop rehearsals; D stayed home to schlep him to and fro (and to talk with some guys about a travel ball job); Oldest *said* he had stuff he needed to do, implying that there were school things going on, but we think he was DMing a game on Thursday night and didn’t want to reschedule. I was a little concerned that #2 wouldn’t be comfortable going it alone (he knows everyone who was going, but a brother or two is a helpful safe place—for newcomers, he has severe, long-term anxiety and is only just inching his way out of nearly 15 years of never knowing when a panic attack might hit) but I don’t think he hesitated.

You have no idea how relieved I was, especially since he just dove in and hung out the whole weekend. We really had nothing planned but F&W on Saturday, but he and I did Disney Springs for lunch on Friday, then met up with the rest of the crowd & did Magic Kingdom + dinner at the Swan on Friday, and then he was up early enough that the two of us plus the other early-riser couple walked over to Epcot (we were staying at the Beach Club, yay for friends with DVC) and hit the new Frozen ride at rope-drop (cute and pretty, but still a 40 minute wait even with getting into line at 9:05) before returning to the hotel and rousting the rest of the crew out to start the fooding and wining and tiara-ing. (We did have fastpasses for the new Soarin’, which broke up the afternoon rather nicely. We’ll have to try it again next year. But mostly we just ate and drank and shopped, though Italy let us down and we did not emerge with purses this year.)

And then he and I went to Hollywood Studios and did Star Wars stuff on Sunday rather than lay around the pool. I know everybody fusses about having Jakku in Star Tours, but we both thought the segment was perfect for the ride, plus then we got the 2nd Death Star run in the second segment of the ride (YAY, NO JAR-JAR) which, for all the times I’ve ridden that ride, I’ve never seen. So it was like a whole new ride. V. v. exciting. We finished off with a quick trip back into Epcot to buy BabyBoy some Attack On Titan socks and to get a shave ice (neither of which were happening the day before, not with the lines and how tired we were by the time we got to Japan.)

And then we drove home, the end, sadface. (But we upgraded #2 to an annual pass, since by the time I paid for the 3 days this weekend and added on the days for the spring break trip next April, we’re already breaking even, and that’s before the extra month they’re tacking on to celebrate MK’s 45th, which means we get F&W2017 in that umbrella, too. So, yay, I have an accomplice in annual passporting!)

So, favorite F&W food: beef bourguignon (France), smoked salmon and potato pancake (Scotland), chimichurri beef and empanada (Argentina? I think), white chocolate & peanut butter mousse (the Chew booth? or whatever is down by the Land), lamb chop (Australia), lobster roll (Block & Hans), and the perogie/kielbasa combo at Poland.

Favorite F&W alcohol: passion fruit slush at France, hard rootbeer float at Champagne & Dessert, the citrus thistle at Scotland, frozen apple pie at Poland

Favorite non-F&W food: croque glace (caramel fleur del sel ice cream/chocolate sauce) (L’Artisans des Glaces, France), fish & chips (Yorkshire County Fish Shop, UK), cinnamon sugar cronut (the snack booth just down from Canada), chorizo & queso + guac at San Angel Inn (inside Mexico), funnel cakes from the booth outside of America, pizza (Via Napoli, Italy)

Favorite non-F&W drinks: classic margarita / La Cava Tequila tasting flight (San Angel Inn, Mexico—it is virtually impossible to get into LCT during F&W, but the big restaurant has a decent access to their tequilas and (most importantly) takes reservations so there is one less line to wait in), iced mint tea (Morocco), Tipsy Ducks In Love (Joy of Tea, China—coffee, tea, chocolate and bourbon, what could go wrong with that?)

And now it's almost Halloween and thus time to haul out all the creepy crawlie stuff, to further distract myself from the election insanity... I will try for pictures this year.

I've always wanted to go to the Epcot Food & Wine thingie! It's my dream to eat beef bourguignon while wearing a tiara!

Sounds like you had a blast. Good for you. :)

Disney Workd is definitely the place to do it!

If you do get to give it a try, you know who to talk to before you go, right?😉

It was really fun--not a park-centric trip this time but still very Disney-sequel!
