things that have made me happy, part the first
I think I'm turning this into Rec!Week! These have been piling up all summer and fall; this is the first of three or four posts. I'm working from the oldest ones I had marked, but maybe there are a few you might have missed? I think I managed to leave comments/kudos on everything, but if I didn't, thank you! I loved reading these!
may the fourth, by
irnan, The Avengers, gen, ~1800 words === Tony is a genius and a geek and this was probably inevitable. I still did a little chair-dance when I read it.
The Archer and the Monster, by
deadpool, The Avengers, Bruce/Clint, ~47,000 words, Explicit === When it comes to Bruce and sex, there are two camps in Avengers fic: the first is that it's fine, he's good, it's not just the heartrate thing that makes him change; and the second is, oh HELL no, NO SEX. I lean more to the first option (I can go into a whole thesis on the differences between his two changes in the movie and why), but the second option means there is pining and yearning and figuring out how to make it all work regardless. This fic is kind of a quintessential let's-figure-it-out, with lots of the aforementioned pining and yearning and an awesomely helpful Tony, too.
Down From the Bird's Eye View, by
BlackEyedGirl, The Avengers, Clint/Coulson, ~4600 words, Teen === Post-movie, Clint finds a team, which, if you know Clint Barton, is kind of a Big Deal. (Posted pre-movie so no fix-it required.)
Mission Matchmaker, by
infiniteeight, The Avengers, Clint/Coulson, ~7800 words, Explicit === Coulson playing matchmaker could have been ridiculous crack, but instead this is sweet and hot and did indeed make me very happy.
i know this much is true, by
kellifer_fic, The Avengers, Clint/Coulson, ~5700 words, Teen === I'm always up for a fake-dating story, but most of them are not nearly as much fun as this one. :D
Leaving Doubt To Fate, by
sinope, The Avengers, Clint/Coulson, ~15,700 words, Explicit === Given that we're dealing with SHIELD, I'm kind of surprised the Ghost In The Machine trope hasn't been done to death. Then again, it'd be hard to top this one.
But I Will Hold On Hope (And I Won't Let You Choke), by
Perpetual, The Avengers, Clint/Coulson, ~14,900 words, Teen === My mental shortcut for this one is "The Ballad of Clint Barton And The SHIELD Handlers." Also: SITWELL, omg. (Alsoalso: Deadpool!)
asking about a scar (and i know i gave it to you months ago), by
lanyon, The Avengers, Clint/Coulson, ~1300 words, Teen === Clint hasn't believed in magic for a very long time, but he still makes wishes. I really loved this style; it's evocative, but still in character.
Every Cripple Has His Own Way of Walking, by
rubygirl29, The Avengers, Clint/Coulson, ~12,700 words, Teen === Clint can barely breathe, he's grieving so hard; Natasha is making designers in Paris cry; and Pepper is weeping over bloody Captain America cards, which is completely unacceptable to Tony so he does what he does best: figure out how to fix the unfixable. Usually, he's more of an electro-mechanical fix-it guy, but needs must.
Talk to Me, by
laceymcbain, The Avengers, Clint/Coulson, ~12,800 words, Teen === Excellent SHIELDHusbands backstory. Excellent. (Plus! fix-it, yay.)
The Last Great Border Town Hotel, by
ignipes, The Avengers, Natasha/Clint, ~5000 words, Teen === Awesomely wonderful BlackHawk backstory. Really. So much of this has become personal head canon. Not a fix-it for the movie, but That Thing That Happened is not ignored.
Baby Don't You Want To Go, by
suzelle, The Avengers, Natasha/Clint, ~5400 words, Teen === Snapshot of an early assignment, and I really adore this Clint and Natasha. They're not drowning in angst, but they're not unaffected by their lives either, and they're both trying to figure each other out.
Our Deal, by
zee, The Avengers, Natasha/Clint, ~9700 words, Explicit === Their deal is that they're kind of a mess (believably so) and everything they've done to keep themselves safe probably didn't work and that's scary as shit. They're still badasses, though. Little bit of a yenta!Tony, but also believably so.
Never Have I Ever, by
Lenore, The Avengers, Steve/Natasha, ~3200 words, Explicit === I blame my love of Steve/Natasha on that little smile Cap gets after he throws Natasha up to grab onto the Chitauri sled, the one that says, 'Now there's a swell dame!' This is a porny little bit of goodness where they both get to cross a few 'never-evers' off their lists.
Yes, Tony Stark, There Is A Santa Claus, by
eleanor_lavish, The Avengers, Tony/Steve, ~3100 words, Teen === Tony throws a party. It is, predictably, An Event. :D
不甘寂寞 (buganjimo), by
perspi, Hawaii Five-0, Gen, ~1400 words, Teen === Mary and Steve, finally being able to be siblings. I will not lie: I got all choked up. (And, as I discovered when I went back to verify links, there is a second story, too! \o/ )
