solstice snapshot
tree: vertical, lit, decorated
cards: mailed
house: defcon omgINCOMING
yard: somebody coming to get rid of the leaves tomorrow, in time for dinner "party"
gifts: 13/20, 3/5 stockings, 1/3 kids done with their own shopping
cookies: sugar cookie dough chilling; gingerbread kisses in process; tempted severely by these chocolate fudge cookies with candy cane buttercream filling
hobbit: still unseen, fml
back: semi-de-kinked, no actual crunching so far
christmas day dinner: menu decided upon (basically, fish of the day, as the plan is to get up super-early on Christmas Eve and go hit the markets and see what looks good. We're hoping for a side of salmon.)
work: done for until 12/31 when I'm going in to write a draft in the peace of everyone being off.
nye: uhm. last year, L & I went spectacularly off the rails with pomegranate martinis, so I think the husbands are pretending the night doesn't exist this year.
this is why i never do holiday fic exchanges!

I also made pecan tassies that dissolved into a big pile of very dry crumbs, and a yellow cake (to use up the leftover buttercream) that is as heavy as a brick, with even less flavor. Idk what went wrong with either of them, but there was also fudge, so it's all good. Added to what's left of the white chocolate/cocoanut toll house cookies I made the other day - what Lois and I didn't eat - and I think I have enough stuff to take to Cbus tomorrow, if the snow lets up.
Nic is cooking Christmas Eve and I'm cooking Christmas Day. I have no idea what yet. I look forward to going to the grocery store this weekend.

I have my grandmothers pecan tassie recipe but I'm not sure I'm up for that much time in the kitchen.
I tried a new sugar cookie recipe this year -- it looked very soft when I stuck it in the fridge so we'll have to see about it
