meme and the start of something new?
::waves::
It's been a couple of weeks but then last night I fell into a Felicity/Oliver-shaped hole and came to share with y'all and, lo! There were comments! and it was fun!
So. Posting would be good. And hey, I have SO.MANY. things bookmarked to share. Clearly, trying to do them all in one big swoop (or even monthly) isn't happening so my brain finally woke up and ingested enough Diet Coke to produce the thought that I should just throw a couple of them out each day. (You probably don't want to know how much Diet Coke that took, but those who have shared a hotel room with me over the years can attest to my ability to down oceans of the stuff and let's just say it has been a long, long month of paper-cut type aggravations.)
Thus: Happy-making Thing(s) of the Day (mostly fic, natch, but there are Lots Of Things starred and tagged and bookmarked across my internet-ready devices.)
Also, starting off today with the A-Z meme
A - Age: 50
B - Bed size: Queen waterbed
C - Chore you hate: There's one I don't hate?
D - Dog's name: Riley, aka WonderDog. There is also a cat, the delicate and dainty Miss Curia, who is a Dalek in disguise (she exterminates more life forms than any cat I've ever met.)
E - Essential start to your day item(s): Diet Coke. iPad. Repeat.
F - Favorite color: Blue
G - Gold or Silver: Yes.
H - Height: 5' 8"
I - Instruments you play: Music and I are only the vaguest of acquaintences. It's better that way. Trust me.
J - Job title: Technical Communications Director (Non-Managerial) -- this means I'm on the Technical Guru track at my company, where I can (and do) take leadership of my technical speciality w/o having to deal with people issues. This is also better. SO MUCH BETTER.
K - Kisses or hugs: Whatever you want to share.
L - Living arrangements: Single-family house on the edge of what was a small Southern town (complete with railroad tracks and a family-run restaurant that made it onto Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives) that has been subsumed into the metro sprawl. Me, husband, 2 boys full-time, 1 boy part-time (when not away at school), 1 dog, 1 cat.
M - Mood: SCHOOL IS OUT!!!! I repeat, SCHOOL IS OUT!!!! (Well, almost--the home-schooled kid still has a couple of weeks, but that doesn't include buses and lunches and lost assignments and PTA meetings, etc, etc, etc.)
N - Nicknames: Missy. Madre.
O - Overnight hospital stays other than birth: Tonsillectomy in grade school. Ankle surgery in high school. Knee surgery in college (which shouldn't have been overnight but I had a bad reaction to the anasthesia.) Three kids being born.
P - Pet Peeves: People who mistake education for learning.
Q - Quote from a movie: "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
R - Right or left handed: Right
S - Siblings: One younger brother who is fulfilling my travel fantasies through his work and is at least sending me cool gifts while he cleans up assorted water treatment facilities world-wide.
T - Time you wake up: 6:30ish, but did I mention that SCHOOL IS OUT?!
U - Underwear: nothing exciting
V - Vegetable you dislike: Kale. I don't care if it is the trend of the moment, it is NASTY IN MY MOUTH.
W - Ways you run late: The House of Boys is ever inventive in this aspect. Also, sometimes I am just too damn tired to get out of bed.
X - X-rays you've had: eh, I break bones. Lots.
Y - Yummy food you make: I make lots of yummy food. (It is my sole domestic talent.) Lasagna; shrimp and grits; tortilla encrusted grouper with a fresh vegetable salsa; multi-grain salad with asparaus, goat cheese and meyer lemon dressing; grilled salmon with honey-balsamic glaze; brownies; carrot cake with a Bailey's-spiked frosting; etc.
Z - Zoo favorite: Tigers. But only at someplace like the San Diego zoo where they're outside and moving around. Otherwise, they're too sad.

One from the oldest part of my list & one from the most recent:
The Adventure of the Tattoed Fighter by
ariadnes_string, Sherlock Holmes / Hawaii Five-0, Holmes/Watson, ~10,800 words, PG-13 === Super-fun fusion where Holmes and Watson come to the aid of a mysterious stranger and end up with his loud, fast-talking partner, too. Danny Williams translates to Victorian London much more smoothly than you'd expect. :D
Con Limon Y Sal by
Lacinia, Avengers, Bruce Banner/Natasha Romanoff, ~12,000, Mature === Really excellent Bruce and Natasha (and Clint) in the year after the movie, doing what it takes to keep going and finding unexpected relationships along the way. Tiny bit AU for the movie at the beginning, but nothing major.

The recs look interesting and since I'm stuck at home with the post-surgical one, I need more reading material. So. Bored.

"inventiveness" is a good way to describe boys' capacity for lateness :)

(a month or so ago, a .gifset went by on tumblr, about how tumblr was better/cooler/more creative than facebook now, plus 'your mom's not on it.' I had to reblog with an added, 'wanna bet?')
