So, yesterday morning, I heard the thermostat click at about 6:30, but the AC never kicked on. Several not-exciting consults later, and I am working from home again today while we get a new furnace and the inside half of an AC unit. My emergency fund (and a goodly portion of my discretionary spending for the year), she has vanished.

Oldest did something (good) on reddit and ended up on the front page. I'd be proud if I really understood, but I feel I'm faking it well. (See also: motherhood, things they never really explain.)

Between the cold and the funeral and BabyBoy's determination that I will be caught up on Warehouse 13 before the D*C panels I have not read anything recently, so the Wednesday book meme is kindof anemic this week. I did finish Understanding Comics, which I enjoyed, but was more for homeschooling purposes rather than enjoyment.

I did have fun with all the SDCC photos and gifsets on tumblr this past weekend, but I don't know how people actually survive it. I can barely make it through Dragon Con at a third of the size.

Ah, yes. Furnace and A/C replacement. I got to do this about two years ago, in the middle of January when it was -26 (Celsius) and all of a sudden the house started to get c-c-cold. Fast. And husband was in Europe. Kept my kid (and the pipes) from freezing by keeping our fireplaces going, and threw myself at the mercy of emergency replacement services. The good thing -- and that is something that may be unique to my province of residence but worth looking into -- is environmental programs run by the government that would give you an actual cash credit for high-efficiency equipment, so the government effectively paid about $800 towards the acquisition of the new system. Didn't take very long to get it, either.

Aren't kids and the internet scary? My kidlet did something on tumblr the other day that got re-tumbl'd 17,000 times in the space of two days. I have a few stories on FFN that have that many hits, but it took them, like, 18+ months to get there!!

I'm hoping I can claim the cost on taxes next year, because it is *definitely* more efficient and all (the stuff we replaced was something around 30 years old) but that's a while off.

I'm having to try to explain the whole reddit thing to my mom, as she was talking with him and was very confused. The generation gap x 2!

Ugh! Sorry about the AC/furnace! that is the worst!

I really did not need to spend that much money today, not after I just wrote tuition checks yesterday, ugh!

I finally realized this year that I don't want to go to SCDD - I want to go to the SDCC that the invited guests go to. It looks like they have more fun! Less standing in incredibly long lines, more partying.

Of course, Creation Cons are the biggest ones I've ever been to, and they're practically like a second home, now. (Or were, before I left chicago, sigh)

So many people! I'm always ready to crawl under my desk when I get back from D*C--San Diego would just put me right over the edge, I think. Plus, it's all in one building, which is more convenient, but aiyiyi, one building!

Thank you for the reminder of why I pay my home warranty bill every year. Not that February's $60 water-heater replacement wasn't enough.

And SDCC is definitely not for the faint of heart (or limb). I confess I don't see the point anymore.
