Mundane things for a Monday

(I know, I know, that sounds like the lamest meme ever, but that's about where I am these days)

  • I am not a make-up person. I'm not. I have my stuff that works and that's it. If I can't put it on my face while I'm at a stoplight on my commute, it doesn't happen. I say all this to try to explain the cold terror that shot through my veins when I found out that Estee Lauder has changed their tinted moisturizer/sunscreen (sobbing wail of despair.) The old stuff worked and didn't make me break out (yes, I still get zits, even at 50+, sigh. Sorry to break that news to those younger, but yeah, you might not grow out of it either.) I guess I'm trying their replacement but I may be back here asking for recs.

  • I'm moving along on my [livejournal.com profile] marvel_bang but I keep coming across food that fits so perfectly into it and I have to stop and make notes. It's not remotely a food-based story, but I might have to do a round-up post of links and recipes regardless. Some people do playlists/soundtracks for their fic… I househunt for the characters and dream about the food everyone is eating. (I should make that be my AO3 bio.)

  • I kind of like this time of summer break—we're done with Beach Week and we've celebrated the Fourth… now there's nothing really on the schedule but hot days and maybe some trips to the pool. DragonCon cosplays are proceeding (even if the hotel thing is kind of a mess.) People keep moaning about how the summer's almost over, but there's still a month and that's a lot if you don't let the whiners get you down.

  • you know, ebay has been around for a really long time, you'd think people would have figured out how to bid effectively now, rather than sit there and run the price up on an auction that still has 6 days left on it. (No, I haven't quite given up on the Dooney & Bourke bag I made myself not buy the last time I was at Disney World. Surely, you're not surprised by this?)

  • We are supposed to go rafting in a couple of days to celebrate D's birthday… On the one hand, I love the mountains and being out on the river, but on the other hand, ugh, paddling. I don't think I ever saw my post-50s as a time when I'd be doing anything more rigorous than opening another bottle of wine, but here I am…

I'm pretty happy with Boscia BB cream, which I got at Sephora after testing about four different BB creams. (Each tester gave me about a week's worth of use, which is one very nice thing about Sephora.) I hate feeling like I'm wearing foundation, and I can't say I don't notice this stuff at all, but it's nowhere near as bad as a lot of them. I mix it with plain moisturizer to thin it down even further. Might be worth a try.

    Also, miss you!

Rafting! I've always wanted to do that! Perhaps the endless adventures are the result of having boys? I find myself doing all kinds of things I thought I'd left behind in middle school.

    Have fun!

We've rafted a lot, on a lot of great rivers, but yesterday was not my finest day. I went swimming twice and all love to the guide in our raft for hauling me back in. My second fall was immortalized on camera--I'll share when the CD gets here.

Other than swallowing a bunch of river water (and losing my favorite cargo pants (which my adorable guide then snagged off a rock downriver, bless him), it was a fun day!

Oh! I know that momentary terror when your world is rocked by the sudden loss of a trusted make-up essential. I recently went through that with Maybelline discontinuing my oil-control pressed powder. It's been almost four months and I'm still in limbo. Good luck to you! (I also know there are much bigger issues to deal with, but still...) ;-)

ugh, I have such issues with make-up! If I wear it at all, I am firmly of the opinion that I shouldn't look like I'm wearing it. And I really don't want to think about it.

    sigh.

Like you said, there are bigger problems to deal with, but this pokes me every time I look in the mirror, so I totally agree! I hope you find some new powder, too!

Oh my god, I am so with you on both the makeup and the zits. WHY DOES IT NEVER END. It is a never-ending search for what works, for me.

It is COMPLETELY UNFAIR to still be getting zits at my age! I'm going to go straight from acne-control to menopause at this rate.

    hmpf.
