intro of sorts

Hi! ::waves to old and new friends:: Sorry, it's kind of a mess here, as I started importing multiple LJs to here and then RL got tremendously stupid. Things are still a little messy, but here's a quickly updated intro to me and mine. Once I get the holidays sorted out, the new job smoothed over, and the other pro writing stuff dealt with, things should move a little more quickly around here. (Hah, who are we kidding? It's aspirational, kids.)

1. Me == Long-time geekgrrl (no, really, I remember when Wolverine first appeared in the comic books. And yes, I was reading them back then, so I really am a hopeless geek.) Electrical engineer, now working in software. Most of the time that's awesome (like when I get to play with an Apple Watch or the new HP programmable wand, squeeeeee), but sometimes it means I get called a fake geek girl over lunch (b/c of course the only reason I go to cons is to get male attention. I'm still not sure how I didn't go over the table and throttle that moron.) The mood of my posts will vary accordingly.

2. HoB == The House of Boys, my traveling circus of a family, including 3 grown boychildren (cleverly referred to as Oldest, #2Son, & BabyBoy) who alternate living at home and at school; D, my husband of 20+ years, who is best described as the shorter, baseball-coaching brother of Eric Taylor from Friday Night Lights (no, really. that show was documentary-like in more ways than I'm totally comfortable with. Unfortunately, I am nowhere near as awesome as Tami, but we all have our aspirations in life, yes?); MacGaraidh, aka The Berserker, our Aussie shepherd/Irish wolfhound/Border collie madman of a rescue dog; and (the only other female in the house), Curia, the Dalek masquerading as a delicate and dainty kitty. (She brings us fresh kills weekly.)

3. We have a few health issues in our house, including my neat-o autoimmune disorder (hey, it had its own episode of House, and no, it's not lupus), Oldest's hearing loss, #2's severe anxiety disorder, D's heart issues, and BabyBoy's maybe/maybe-not bipolar diagnosis. I mention this because while I don't generally talk about any of it here (I have this icon that says it all: I do have a life, thanks--fandom is what keeps me from committing murder in it), I sometimes fade off the radar while I deal with all.

4. I write fic, a mix of slash, het, and gen. I have almost everything posted to AO3, where I am [archiveofourown.org profile] topaz and I tag any announcement posts or comment fic/drabbles with fic here. I do tend to like the unconventional pairings, fyi.(Cf: Jeff/Jensen, Jeff/Jared, Kirk/Pike, Hawkeye/everybody.) Also, (in case you haven't noticed already) I have great fondness for babbling narrators and sentences that neverever end.

5. I read a ton of fic, too, and try to keep track of things that make me smile or cry, or blow my mind with how hot they are. I'm perpetually behind in sharing them, but I do get around to it. I tag them here with things that made me happy and cross-post them with tags and all on [pinboard.in profile] topaz119. (I'm up over 800 links there. I may throw a party when I hit 1000.)

6. Meta & me? Tend to get a long much better when it comes out in my fic so most of my actual fannish discourse is along the lines of squee! yay! ♥! I'm still thinking about stuff, it'll just work itself out when I look at whatever fic is on my gdocs and think, huh. yeah, I guess that *is* how I see things.

7. I read as many published books as I can fit in (and I just started a new job that entails public transportation, so that number has suddenly gone way up, yay!) I try to mention them here (the Wednesday reading meme is still a thing, I think) and tag them turning pages. Plus, I love to chat about you're reading, too.

8. FOOD. My sole domestic talent is cooking, so that's always fair game for a post or two a month. And I've been known to include recipes in my author's notes of fic. Eating out is also taken seriously in my house, (you don't want to see my google map of restaurants I want to try in-town), so if I'm ever venturing somewhere where I know a flister/circle-er lives, I do hit them up for recommendations.

9. Beach Week / Disney World / crazy travels with the HoB. We've spent a week for the last 27 years in an ocean-front house on the coast of South Carolina with my bridesmaids and their families. We had a small blip this last year that threw a wrench into our well-oiled planning machinery so you may be hearing a fair amount about this in the coming months. Disney World is also A Thing around here--we usually go a couple of times every year--yes, even with grown kids. (Now I can offer opinions on the best cocktails and adult entertainments.) Also, D is not the kind of person to go sit and look at the scenery, so whenever we travel, I am in overdrive with the planning (because if I don't keep him busy, I'll kill him. And that Would Be Bad.) which also spills over here.

10. X-Men. Batman. Star Wars (OT). ST:TOS. XF. LOTR. *NSYNC. SPN. ST:AOS. H50. MCU. Star Wars (Rebels/Solo/R1/Sequels) ===> Fannish life, on- and off-line, starting from when I was about 10.

Hi! Thanks for posting this introduction!

1. I've never been called a fake geek girl (mainly because I don't hang out with a lot of geek boys), but I hate when I hear about that. Arrgh!

8. I have done the same with recipes if I've had someone make something I actually know how to make, lol! (I'm not a great cook and I don't love doing it, but I do have some meals that are my favorites.)

9. Oh gosh, Pip is the same way! We mainly visit Civil War battlefields and he always has to be doing something. I can never just sit and relax. A couple months ago we visited Gettysburg for the weekend and it was the first time he actually took it easy. Which means it was a great vacation for me, too. *g*

Things that make me happy is such a good tag for good fic.

My corner of dreamwidth is also pretty messy - the move from LJ was not smooth, and then I was distracted by shiny things. So now I'm shoving outdated bits into cabinets and adding a proper winter cleaning to the to-do list. [Here's hoping it gets tackled. :D] Er, tangent. My actual point is I understand and can relate. :)

This is an excellent introduction. Thank you for sharing all of this.

Hi

It's nice to see such activity here.

My DW is also a bit of a mess as I didn't import it when I first came over here. I decided to leave it as is as I have no energy to clean it up.

This is a lovely intro.

I have to admit, despite never stopping posting here I've also never updated any of my info. It's all many years out of date now.
