another miscellaneous monday

cut for your scrolling ease

We spent a lot of time on the computers this weekend, as #2 decided he did want to continue on for a diploma rather than a GED and thus has a ton of work to crank through. Even with it being his decision, school is still so triggery for him, so I spend a lot of time being silently supportive in the same room. At least this weekend, I had the excellent distraction of San Diego Comic Con, as is evidenced by my SDCC tag on tumblr.

Random thoughts from things I reblogged:
  • If only the last Superman hadn't caused flames on my face, because Ben is actually looking Batman-esque and the Wonder Woman poster didn't make me froth at the mouth (unlike everything else about her in this movie.)

  • Otherwise, lots of fun stuff—all the love for Renner's gray t-shirts, srsly--and lots that I missed because I'm behind on my viewing/reading, but you know how it goes. (At least Aisha Tyler gave me enough of a head's up in the Penny Dreadful panel that I could dive for the Pause button when she said something like Let's start with the finale, because HOLY CRAP. whoops, and thank you, I will come back and see you later, wonderful woman.)

  • Also, Misha's cupcake apron. ::snorfle::

I cracked 5000 words on my [livejournal.com profile] marvel_bang and might possibly have a plot, rather than just a vague idea of non-sexual intimacy (there is, of course, sex, too, but yeah, my brain went off on a tangent and that's what it wanted to write, which is good and all, but plots are nice, too.) So, yeah, Clint/Darcy, Take 2 appears to be a go. Said brain also went off on a Olicity, too, which seriously, I have no idea. I mean, I love them in canon, but I would have said I didn't have any ideas to write for them. Hah, shows how much my conscious brain knows.

I think we can start the 4-week countdown, and ugh, I have nothing of a tangible nature worked out yet. I did, however, hunt down a bottle of OPI You're Such A (Buda)Pest (Hawkeye appropriate lavender) and another one of their What Wizardry is This, which is an olive/bronze/gold sand finish and should work pretty well with the Skyrim Thieves the boys and I are doing. Of course, I don't actually have anything even ready to try on for the rest of it, but, uh, I do have boots? Yay?

Also, our hotels are just totally fucked this year, but I finally got a continuous reservation nearby and am still holding out hope for the Hilton. Oh, well, it wouldn't be D*C if there wasn't something skewing sideways.

    Food
Costco had some gorgeous-looking, wild-caught Coho salmon this weekend, so I grabbed a side and planked it on the grill, roughly following this Michael Chiarello recipe. HOMG. So good. Personally, I laid it over some field greens lightly dressed with some of the honey-balsamic & olive oil, but the rest of the house tore through pounds and pounds of Crash Potatoes (I found the recipe on the Pioneer Woman's recipe boards—it's not hers, but from someone in her comm—basically, steamed/boiled red potatoes that are then smashed onto a baking sheet filmed with olive oil, brushed with more olive oil and seasoned generously with coarse-ground salt, pepper and chopped fresh herbs. I think we had chives & thyme? But I've made them with rosemary and garlic and sage, too. They're always sooo good.) Other than that, I improvised flatbreads with some leftover flank steak, Manchego, & a cilantro/garlic chimichurri; nearly burned the house down when I apparently didn't quite defrost the steaks from my father-in-law's farm and they kind of exploded from the steam and then caught on fire on the grill (everyone ended up with frozen chicken tenders, because the steaks weren't just too well-done, they were carbonized); and took the easy way out with grilled brats and a warm potato salad.

Also, Trader Joe's cookie butter is EEEEEVIL.
