topaz119: 8-bit depiction of Lady Catherine DeBourgh frowning with the words "I am most seriously displeased." (Lady Catherine)

I'm really not mad, it's just that I can't not use this icon for this post

Would I rather spend a day at Pemberley with Mrs. Reynolds, a weekend at Rosings in the company of Lady Catherine and Mr. Collins, or a week at Longbourn in the company of Mrs. Bennett and Lydia Bennett? (for [livejournal.com profile] kaelie)

Okay, Rosings, with Lady C and her pet reverend is right out. I'd take to drink and be carried out dead of alcohol poisoning before the second night!

And I initially thought the same about Longbourn, but, you know, Lydia probably knows all the gossip on everyone in the whole county. We could add a little something to Mrs. Bennett's tea and find out what's really going on. I don't think I could take an entire week of that, though (but it would still be better than Rosings!)

Which of course leaves Pemberley, even if it is only with the housekeeper. She's probably more interesting than the rest of them, though--I kind of want to know how exactly one person organizes a house of that size. I'm sure I've worked for software companies with fewer employees than it took to run that house.

Definitely Pemberley!

Quite right, it has to be Pemberley - and I bet that housekeeper knows a good bit of gossip, too.

Icon high-five!

That is a great icon.

And Mrs. Reynolds is the obvious choice. The other two options would make me want to slit my wrists.

I know that Charlotte didn't have much choice in life, but I feel so sorry for her having to spend extended periods of time with the gruesome twosome. I hope Lizzie invites her to Pemberley a lot.

In my imaginary sequel to P&P, Lizzie has lots of children and invites Charlotte to stay with her every time she is close to "confinement" and after (because she needs the help and her mother certainly isn't a good option), so Charlotte is there a lot. While Lady Catherine doesn't approve of Charlotte's long absences, at the same time she considers Charlotte to be her eyes and ears at Pemberley so she doesn't intervene.

That's the right answer, obviously.

Anything else is just a recipe for horror and woe.

I like your answer! And the opportunity to snoop into all the corners of Pemberley is not to be missed, I think.

It would be super-cool to see how a house of that magnitude ran back in the day.
