Written for JuC Day, 2005

I can pretty much tell you that we wouldn't be here without [livejournal.com profile] nonchop reading this, paragraph by paragraph, and in some cases, line by line, as I wrote. And [livejournal.com profile] learn_me was my real estate agent. Every house in that story has a real life counterpart, and C found them for me. And then she fed me pictures (more about that in a minute.) [livejournal.com profile] without_me sent me a print of an anonymous surfer in the curl at Pipeline that was inspirational. All of them read and beta'd and held my hand when the sex just would.not.happen.

And J (y'all know J, right, my friend who I've dragged into the sparkly madness?) let me borrow her house, because it had the vibe that I wanted/needed for Lynn's house.

[livejournal.com profile] hammerhead22 posted this one of Justin on his birthday and I might have squealed because it was so perfectly the Justin I had just started writing.

And th, [livejournal.com profile] scot_ty posted the perfect JC, and [livejournal.com profile] dacey detagged it, and it was wonderful.

Then, when I was starting to hit the wall, [livejournal.com profile] beatpropx opened up his picture folder and for those of you who aren't addicted to surf documentaries, this is Dave Kalama (our favorite) at Pe'ahi (Jaws).

And [livejournal.com profile] learn_me spent several evenings keeping me distracted, with the best of her finds being these two, which if you look just right become our boys...

Waimea

Pipeline

Thanks to everyone!

er, hi!

(J waves at everyone. Pun sort of intended, sorry.)

Loved the story, and the pix. Am slightly abashed that you think my house needs that much repair. It's not THAT bad!! A little drafty maybe! ;-)

No! It's the feel of the place I borrowed. ::blushes in shame:: It's *not* falling down. Oh, and then my brain went other places and surfboard bar is sort of inspired by the tiki hut in your old apartment. =)

That was a fantastic story! Seriously gave off the whole hawaiian vibe of haliewa and the North Shore surf communities. Awesome job.

Excellent! I'm so glad that the vibe felt right to you. I had a blast writing it. Thanks for letting me know you liked it.

darlin. this requires more than a "well done".

i loved it. truly. it is one of the best stories i have read...probably ever.

i judge fiction (and film) based on whether or not i'd like to be part of it, to be in that environment, to meet the characters. let me tell you, i'm about sell my place and move to hawaii. that was just amazing.

all the terms, the locations, the description. it was so detailed without being overly verbose and i loved that about this story. authors with that ability capture the very essence of what writing is about. i think you've done it here.

opening this lj to reply here was the first time i saw the pics and guhhhhh. lovely. not even just the jc and justin - though they are perfect - but the waves...just unfathomable. sometimes nature in its purest form can get me and suck me in...when you combine that with two very attractive men doing what they do....well, i'm done.

thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience and awesome talent with us.

a very well done story.

Thank you! I'm so glad this worked for you, and if you do decide to make the move, let me know, because I honestly do have real estate listings for all the houses here. JC's is especially nice. =)

I had to hold myself back from posting the 3847563 pictures I have saved, or caps from the half-dozen surfer documentaries I've had on endless repeat in my dvd drive, but putting our boys in that scene was truly too much fun.

Thanks so much for the kind words!

you are more than welcome. again, i really really enjoyed this. i am reading it again right now. hahah!

hmmmmmm. well. i need a job out there before i decide to purchase a place to live. so if you have THAT, then we're good to go!

also....surfer documentaries....really? for someone (like me) who knows all they know about surfing from reading your fic....what should i watch? as a cinema student i appreciate all films, documentaries included. any thoughts?

[identity profile] t-fic.livejournal.com 2005-03-22 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
::sigh:: I *wish* I had a job out there. ::sighs again::

As for surfing documentaries...oh, honey, pull up a browser and head on over to netflix. You have to start with The Endless Summer, which was made in 1966, the original underground surf movie. Then there's Endless Summer II, Riding Giants (which gives a nice history of surfing and is also really well-made), Step Into Liquid, and Laird: White Knuckle Extreme. By that point, you'll start recognizing the big names...I got to the point that I knew their voices. =) have fun!

ooh. hey thank you so much!!

i'm definitely going to be hitting those asap. (....laird, yum!) since it's my spring break and i'm landlocked, the best thing to do is at least watch a movie about the ocean, right?

haha.

again, thanks. and thanks for your story.

heh. Laird Hamilton is Central Casting's ideal for the ultimate surf god. Enjoy!

I absolutely adored this piece of fiction. I think that it is by far my favorite that I've read from JuC day yet. The parallels that you drew between their real life struggles and the AU characters were great, but you threw enough of your own touches in to make them your own. That makes for fabulous story-telling. And the setting makes me want to start planning my vacation right now!

I have always loved AU's (and just about everything else) and now I am going to have to go read the rest of the stories that I just discovered when I clicked into this LJ! Thank you so much for sharing this with us!

Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed it; I enjoyed writing it. After 2 months of working on this, I'm seriously jonesing for Hawaii. I hope you find something else you like on the site; thanks for the kind words regardless.

That was amazing. This is my favorite story I've read coming out of JuC day. You pulled the boys into this well written AU environment so perfectly. I wanted to be there with them.

Thanks! I really wanted to be there with them, too. =) Glad you enjoyed them.
