hmmm, for those of you who read the news of Google Reader's demise and were as aggravated by the news as I am, I went and downloaded the Feedly extension/add-on for Chrome this morning and while it doesn't look the same, it was a completely seamless and easy transition. All my (200+, omg) feeds were there, as well as all my starred/saved/liked items. This is most important, as I tend to use that as a hold-all for recipes and gift ideas and travel notes/thoughts/projections and my books TBR/slush pile and a million other things and they would have been a bitch to transition.
I'm not sure what's going on with my tags, but I haven't started investigating how to tweak things yet. Mostly I'm just happy to have had the first part go so smoothly and with practically zero effort. They say they'll be able to transition everything to the feedly backend when Reader shuts down, too.
They have a migration doc up here: http://blog.feedly.com/2013/03/14/tips-for-google-reader-users-migrating-to-feedly/
I'm crossing my fingers, but so far, this looks pretty okay and easy... will update as things progress. (Also, feel free to let me know if you've found something that works for you or if you figure things out with feedly to make it fit how you work, etc.)
Another edit to add this lifehacker post with other alternatives:
