topaz119: (somanybooks)
The return of What I'm Reading Wednesday (sadly, this is all that I've read since the last time I posted, about a month ago. RL is such a pain sometimes.)

What I just finished
Maisie Dobbs, by Jacqueline Winspear, which I enjoyed even if it has taken me a month to get through it. I think it was just that I hit the backstory flashback in the middle of the book right at the same time life got a little out of control. I didn't hate the backstory, but it knocked all the momentum out of my read. I've got the next book on my reserve list at the library--I kinda feel like this one was all the set-up, so I'm curious to see how the next book plays out. I will say that I thought the end of this book saved her as a character for me.

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead and 1984 for #2's homeschool lit class, about which I will only say that the Modernists are *killing* me with their hopelessness and despair.

What I'm reading now
Daughter of the Game, by Tracy Grant. Regency England, Napoleonic Wars, spies. You know how much I want to like this.

What's Next
The Ashford Affair, by Lauren Willig, and A Spear of Summer Grass, by Deanna Raybourn, both of which are WWI/post-war Africa.
