Today is sunny and mild.

I fed the birds. I've seen a few sparrows and house finches plus a lady cardinal.

I put out water for the birds.

EDIT 10/23/26 -- We went to the Fall Foliage Walk at Whiteside Garden. Due to high heat and minimal rain, there's not at much color as usual for this time of year, but some leaves were already turning. I took some pictures along the way.

EDIT 10/23/26 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.

I saw a pair of cardinals at the hopper feeder.

EDIT 10/23/26 -- I watered the new picnic table, purple-and-white garden, and maple garden.

Summary:

“You know I’m doing you a favour here,” Seungmin says, raising an eyebrow. It’s a statement, not a question. There’s an edge of a sneer in his voice, which Jeongin knows is there for his benefit because, like always, it makes him squirm. It’s doubly effective coming from Seungmin who is naked, leaning back on his elbows in Jeongin’s bed, and regarding Jeongin like he’s something cute but a little pitiful.

Jeongin wants to bite him. He wants to snark back or be mean the way Seungmin sometimes likes it but right now, kneeling between Seungmin’s spread legs he can only nod frantically.

“Yes,” he says. “Yes, thank you, hyung. Thank you, thank you, I’ll be so good.”

Seungmin barks a laugh. “It’s your first time fucking someone,” he says, blunt. “You’ll be terrible probably.”

1) In a follow-up to my post the other day about creating the Kudos footer,

florianschild has created a browser extension to add it automatically to your posts.

2) In response to some questions about following a tag sitewide (something one could do on Pillowfort), I thought I'd take a look at the Latest Things page since I was betting that Friday five would show up today.

And indeed it has. What I was hoping is that one can substitute other tags and make them come up in chronological order. For example, I used https://www.dreamwidth.org/latest?tag=pillowfort to find posts about Pillowfort. But this only worked because Pillowfort is already a major tag in today's posts. I tried substituting "Merlin" instead and nothing came up.

So the good news is, it's technically possible but the bad news is that there seems to be no option to use it outside of the Latest feed.

3) Speaking of the Friday Five, I'd like to introduce it to the Blanket Box. I think FF is probably Dreamwidth's version of the Q&A meme and, as its name suggests, comes out weekly. So for any Pillowforters looking for things to post about, these are always available.

4) I have not been to a Michael's in quite some time, and thought I haven't missed much. It seems to be pivoting from a store for crafters to a home décor one that still carries some crafting items. ( Read more... )

Anywhere from 1 to 3 times a year, typically.

2. Local community theater or professional theater productions?
Well I love both, but since I live in a small city we don't get a lot of professional productions. I mostly attend local community theater productions.

3. Which do you prefer: dramas or musicals?
Musicals, by a long shot. I also love non-musical comedies though.

4. Have you ever participated in a theatrical production, whether acting, singing or tech?
I participated a lot in high school, mainly in my school's productions but also as a tech in a few community theater shows. I haven't done anything in a long time though!

5. What was the last play or other staged production you attended?
Last month my mom and I went to a community theater production of Come From Away.

2. I made a browser extension!

I saw a post that

yourlibrarian did about how to add a kudos poll to your entries. I thought that seemed cool, but a little tedious to have to build or copy/paste the poll each time you made an update. So I created a tiny little browser extension that allows you to insert the poll code using just a keyboard shortcut. If you're interested in trying it out, you can download it from HERE. 3. Fall Art

I keep finding the most gorgeous maple leaves in my driveway. I decided to press a few of them. I want to glue them into my scrapbook. Does anyone know how long a leaf has to be pressed before you can safely use it? They've been in there two days so far.

I was prematurely optimistic about the state of my work computer last week. A new Windows 11 update on Sunday night nuked the remainder of the functionality that remained after last week's update.

( Tldr on PC woes )

In book news, I finished The Calamities. Not my favorite of Wendig's books? I mentioned the thematic denseness and the parsing difficulty, but the characters are also mostly unlikeable. And I haven't read Wayward (sequel to The Wanderers), but in my personal Wendig experience this is his first main black character (where he did well, I thought), his first main non-binary character (who is... demon-adjacent, let's say), and also his first gay male character (who is a serial killer). Not sure that's a great look overall? IDK. I like it when authors stretch themselves out of their own worldviews, but was this the place for so many marginalized characters?

I also read Six Wakes, which I enjoyed a lot. Mur Lafferty really likes writing combined sci-fi/mystery books, and I think she does both genres well. I wish she were more prolific! Well, and also that my library had her Afterlife series on Kindle...

I finished The Guncle yesterday. Humorous and heartfelt at the same time. Definitely recommend it.

Now I'm reading Stephen King's Full Dark, No Stars. I'm much more of a Joe Hill (his son) fan than a King fan, and actually not a horror enthusiast in general, but Hill kind of converted me. This book hasn't really grabbed me yet, so we'll see. Next up will be sci-fi or fantasy...

I've been told I need to use LinkedIn more. At this point, using it at all is using it more than I did; visiting it daily is an increase by several orders of magnitude from visiting it maybe once a month. I still don't understand it. I still don't see it as anything but duplicitous and manipulative and deceitful. I still can't find anything on it, and I feel like there's nothing to be found.

This is why things like "networking" make me bristle. When people start espousing this kind of website, I can't see the point of it all, because I can't see anything there. I'm shown people I'm supposed to know and I've got no idea who I'm looking at.

There's websites where I work hard to have an easy time, and then there's websites that seem to work me instead. If there was anything there, I wouldn't mind using LinkedIn that much - the interface is still quite sturdy. But there's nothing.

The first two episodes of Yaga were intriguing. It's a new Canadian show inspired by the legend of Baba Yaga.

It stars Hudson Williams and Carrie-Anne Moss.

The soundtrack has Eastern European and Russian covers of American songs. That fits well.

For my August challenge:

Hungry ('26):「This hippo isn’t playing games.」The hungry hungry hippo one (except it's an omnivore). liked this more than I thought I would. I'm easy when it comes to there being a final girl. I did hate two of the deaths because they were so unclear. 3/5 stars

No Way Up ('24):「Brace yourself.」Another one I liked more than I thought I would! Airplane crash, sharks and survival. I appreciated that the queer man survived a lot. When the old person stays behind always gets me though, I get it but at the same time it makes me mad. Maybe when I'm that age I'll understand better. 3.5/5 stars

Dante's Peak ('97):「The pressure is building…」I got the hankering to rewatch this so it's not part of my challenge, but I really enjoyed it. I thought they did a good job with the characters, pacing, music etc! 4.5/5 stars

Hoppers ('26):「Act natural.」Really enjoyed this, it had a lot of heart and humor. I was a little sad Mabel couldn't communicate with the animals in the end anymore but they still had what she and her grandma had in the end. 4.5/5 stars

For my October challenge:

Cloverfield ('08):「Some thing has found us」Okay I have seen this before. There's no way that camera lasted that long without dying. I like how straightforward it is. You end up rooting for the characters a bit even though there was so much drama. It's left a little ambiguous whether two of them survived in the end but I mean, they were buried by rocks. 3.5/5 stars

Fall ('22):「Fear reaches new heights」I don't know what I was expecting what with the subject matter but I ended up having to look away multiple times due to the heights freaking me out. I feel like you see this kind of cheating plot a lot in similar movies. I like JDM but I didn't like his acting in this. Also there some plot holes that were hard to ignore there at the end. 3/4 stars

The Cycle ('26):「You can’t bury the past forever.」Had to watch without subtitles. People say it's best to go in without knowing anything but

Still, really sad story. At the end were they trying to cure or kill him? 3/5 stars

Wolfwalkers ('20):「Be fierce. Be wild. Be free.」I was not expecting this to be such a hard watch! Every time "it's for your own good" was said I wanted to scream! But it's also a gorgeous, beautiful story about finding your own home, freedom and family. I really appreciate that the runtime allowed for everything to unfold as needed for the story. Highly recommend. 5/5
