first week down
Mar. 21st, 2020 08:59 amGood morning!
I'd meant to post more frequently, but it turns out that I wasn't really taking into account the stress factor, so once I got through the day's video calls and dealing with food and all, my brain didn't want to do anything but netflix and chill.
But!
We're still here and we made it through Week 1 (and no, I do not think this is going to be a 2-week thing. I think we're in this for a while.) D's therapies are on hold as they are shutting down to outpatient patients until May and Disney World sent all their college program and international program kids home, neither of which seem to be indicative of this all wrapping up quickly.
BabyBoy is home and in good spirits--I'd been stressing about him being depressed that his first real role in his college theater program being canceled (they were supposed to go onstage in late April, but they're home for the rest of the semester, so that's not happening even if we wrap up this social distancing next week, which I don't think is happening.) He said they have a date at the beginning of the fall semester and they're setting up video rehearsals with their director for over the summer and will work on blocking and staging as soon as they're back. (Also, his college is refunding the entire semester's room & board, which is a not insignificant amount of money.)
So that's a (huge) relief.
I'm working from home indefinitely and all those shift dresses and leggings I've bought over the years but don't really wear b/c I'm usually in sweats on the weekends and they're too casual for even software's casual office policies are getting a workout because I can't show up on video calls in my pajamas. So, I find myself actually following the advice to get up and get dressed for work even though I've never really done that in all the many years I've worked from home. (Seriously, since about 2004? 2005?) My new company is going above and beyond and is issuing a stipend to every employee, including interns, to help with the costs of setting up proper home offices, as even though a lot of us have a set-up, we're suddenly having to deal with multiple people trying to work and do school, etc. I remain astounded that I have ended up at this place, and at such a time as this. It's just mind-boggling.
Another (huge) relief.
So, going back to the format I had before...
baked: brownies (the recipe on the back of the Baker's brand unsweetened chocolate, which is the easiest and BEST recipe out there, so long as you like your brownies on the fudge-y side, as opposed to cake-y)
cooked: chili and grilled chicken and a homemade version of Krystal's scrambler bowls (D's fave)
cleaned: the back storage room off the kids' computer room, which let me move all the stuff that's been dumped in the great room from the flood/drywall replacement back in. found a box of china and stuff from my mom's, so now I'm trying to figure out where to put her holiday china and a bunch of silver and crystal from *her* mom's house.
watched: Harlots (Hulu), about rival houses of prostitution in 18th Century London, which seemed excellent, but was a little too fraught for my current state of mind. Tried The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (I know, I'm behind, this is not news) and it's interesting enough without me having to worry about terrible things happening to characters, so I'm 4? 5? episodes in.
wrote: another 1000 or so words on the Pike/Tilly fic I've been working on for months.
read:
Something We Were Withholding Made Us Weak, a lovely post-canon Good Omens Aziriphale/Crowley where Aziriphale retires to the country and Crowley follows.
I hope you are all well and safe and finding ways to surf the stress of these times. ::kisses::
